pup -

If I don't have my places mixed up, I believe this is now a country western type place, where you can line dance to your heart's content. I will check and make sure.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I was only out that way a couple of times, and it was back in the day, but this place was not really "in" the thriving metropolis of Swisher, but literally at a crossroads out in the country surrounded by cornfields.

The country thing makes sense.

I live down in the SEUS, but one of the things I really miss about Iowa is the little town bars out where you can go and have a few beverages and a bowl of chili on one of those cold winter nights, with a howling blizzard going on outside.

O.K., I have verified that the Dance Mor Ballroom is indeed a country western type establishment.

I have only lived here for a couple of years. I have not tried the beverages and chili experience during a blizzard yet. I may have to try that out this winter.

Welcome Jack. Make sure to check out the Planning for the Future forum, lots of great prep advice there.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jackmcmanus21', 'H')i everyone, my name is Jack. I've been looking through the site and I wanted to get involved because it is very interesting.

interesting? i dont know if id use the word "interesting" to describe the biggest catastrophe in the history of our species that could potentially cost the lives of BILLIONS of human beings
Exciting - thats sounds more appropriate

welcome to the club mate, dont worry there wont be anyone that WONT get involved into this in one way or the other, and when you DO get involved you'll probably wish you never found out about PO

ps.: note to admins, can we have a special section for all these "hello" threads that dont show up on the main page, its really annoying

Splendid!

Here is our Housing Collapse thread - the third in a highly successful series, very recently opened to continue the long discussion. As an expat in Spain, you might have some valuable insights to share.

My very second post! (oops)

Unread postby HeckuvaJob » Sun 10 Aug 2008, 18:31:08

I actually used my first post to critique the media recommendations of one of your Generals. Kind of funny, huh? Huh? Yeah?

*gulp*

Mea culpa.

Anyways... I'm here because I've always had a feeling that the game was rigged. And in the 7 years since that sunny September morning, I've come to realize just how unevenly the deck is stacked.

My passion is censorship, specifically "the subtle yet constant and sophisticated manipulation of reality in our mass media outlets". Corporate news in the US is toxic. My greatest concern is net neutrality. I truly believe that quote by one of our founders that if you give the American people the facts, they're capable of deciding the best course for the country.

Having said that, I'm also willing to concede that (at this stage of the game) fighting for a free press is like complaining about how small your cabin is on the Titanic.

My 7 year odyssey has led me here, so I'm just now learning about peak oil. In fact, I'm one of the idiots who voted for the windfall profit tax on your poll. I want you to tell me why I'm an idiot (but not all at once).

I've just started reading Mike Ruppert's Crossing the Rubicon. I'm also eager to find out what the deal is with another of my favorite authors, Greg Palast. Sorry for using his name if he is, in fact, your Voldemort.

Welcome aboard.

It sounds like you're already far along on the learning curve.

Big Oil is not the problem. Don't encourage people who want to scapegoat them.

I despise Big Oil by the way - I just don't find them to be completely to blame for where we're at (they're just our codependents).
