Did you catch it? I swear i had it back in July. I was very sick for a week and had all the symptoms. Schools should just shut down :) Webcams would work just fine.

no, after my 14 year old got sick, I got something that I think was bronchitis, went to the doc and got a z-pack and it went away in three days. Not sure if I believe this, but CNN said last night now 1 out of 5 children have swine flu symptoms.

edit to add:

the school systems crackdown continues. Last year, the school board informed us that now no walk-ups would be allowed after school to pick up your kids, you have to be in your car (so now we have a ten block line at every school waiting to get their kid). The line starts to form 45 minutes before release. Since I have kids at two campuses, it takes me an hour and twenty minutes to get my two kids. I always got annoyed when people pull up ten minutes before school let out and go inside and check out their kids (I just resent having to sit in line, I don't care about them getting their kids). Yesterday they sent home a note with the kids, please check out your kids the day before if you need to get them the last thirty minutes of school, ostensibly to reduce the time needed to check them out.

What the heck is a z pack? Schools around here are empty by the sounds of it. I think a lot of them are playing this to take time off. A lot of employers are letting people stay home without it going against them. My sister in law is a school nurse, i'll have to see what she has to say...

At this point... I don't see the point of being vaccinated for the swine flu. It's everywhere. From what I've read it will be too late for the majority of the people who'd like it anyway.

Is there a reason to have this vaccine after you've had the flu?

JJ, I think that's very wrong and I would have a talk with the school.

Dawn, I've talked with the school until I'm blue in the face. Now I'm sure:
a) they view me as a potential security/terrorist threat because I don't like their security measures

and

b) they view me as a potential security/terrorist threat because I'm not falling over backwards trying to get my kids the swine flu vaccine. (Texas Department of Health had a town hall meeting here (Burnet, Texas) last Wed. night to assure us the vaccine is safe and explain their plan to vaccinate everyone in town. The Bertram city council, (the town PeakOiler lives in,) bought a vaccine for every person in town (Correct me if I'm wrong, POiler).

Dawn, get with the program. Doesn't matter if you've had the flu. Baxter needs the money. And from what I'm reading, the live virus nasal spray will shed for 21 days after you have the vaccine, so you can infect your friends....

JJ, I don't keep up with the local Bertram news. Perhaps I should. Actually, I live just outside Bertram, btw.
I didn't get a flu shot. Never have. I just tend to take supplementary vitamins during flu season and eat more citrus!
:)
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

My wife's work doesn't have the vaccine yet. They want to make it MANDATORY or something like that. My wife says she'll let them fire here before she gets it (shes pregnant). I told her its too late anyways, u could get it any day and minute if it really is ravaging the local schools. She is at a nursing home where most of the residents are immune to it anyways. The head of nursing there needs her head examined.

Take lots of vitamin D, eat lots of fruits, and omega 3s and the secret they don't want you to know about, elderberry extract... :)

Two young kids died in Ontario over the past week, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old. It's just the beginning of the flu season.
Scary stuff.

1500 people die each day of cancer and how many die each day in auto accidents? Its all hype in my book. They are selling fear. If this was serious no kid would be in school and daycares would shut down.

I agree. While it is sad to lose a child (at least they didn't have to eat dirt cookies & mud pies), a great many people die everyday.
While I will agree that any contagious disease has the possibility of becoming pandemic under the right circumstances, I think media surrounding the Swine Flu & its treatment is just another sheeple conditioning exercise.

Well, I think that the vaccine is being encouraged mainly to avert a slow-down in the economy (and perhaps even shut-down of some services) and to help control the numbers of people who will visit emergency rooms this winter. But, the fact is that a small percentage of teens and young adults have fallen very ill and died, even in Canada, where we're probably better prepared than most countries. That has been unheard of for seasonal flu for many decades, please correct me if I'm wrong. It doesn't matter to me how young people die except that I'd like to prevent it, whatever the cause. Of course, I'm speaking as a parent. It's easier to dismiss statistics when it isn't your own kid that has passed away. And I realize that parents should worry more about their kids' safety while driving - it's a much bigger risk.
