Good work Aaron.

Let all who repeatedly defy COC rules be banned forever.

If that fellow made threats then sue him till he's sorry and then some.

This fine forum should never have been allowed to be a public toilet for creepy Internet Trolls.

Hurrah!

Fortunately I work with an international shipping company whose attorneys are at my disposal free of charge.

So frankly, I don't expect to have much more to do with this whole thing going forward.

My hope is he'll make nice noises, and I'll drop the matter.

And it's worth noting that I was almost the sole voice questioning his baning, while we deliberated. To the chagrin of most of our staff I might add.

And I don't think it's appropriate for me to disclose the exact nature of his private emails here... so no.

I'm sorry to see BiGG go. He could certainly be an obnoxious pain in the ass at times, but many of his posts did have worth. Voices that challenge the common beliefs in this forum are of value; they help to sharpen our logic even if they don't change our minds.

It was actually our staff who convinced me it was necessary.

As you know, many of them can be pretty damn persuasive. (Silver-tonged devils)

I always favor compromise where possible.

But we also don't want to become like the yahoo Energy boards, which are like the wild west.

And thanks PMS... back at ya.

:( Wow, that's radical. I feel sad as well that things had to get this ugly, and although he could be a pain in the a** I respected him somehow because he kept defending his position and was one of the few dissenting voices.
I only noticed the conflict very seldom though, because I stop reading threads when they become flamewars.

In case you ever gonna sue me please don't disclose my first name because it is so rare everybody would know it was me!

I would start a poll, 'Should Bigg have been Banned?' but I know how it would turn out: Yes by a wide majority. Shame on you, you're thin skinned censors.

BIGG had been on my ignore list for months. That is such a wonderful feature.

Every time I am tempted to respond to someone's flame, I hit the ignore button instead. It is wonderful, I get the benefit of reading the ideas of a variety of polite thoughtful people and avoid all the hatred and irrational hostility.

Free speech is great. Gotta love it. But beating a dead horse day after day? The eleventh commandment is -thou shalt not bore God, so he was irritating the entire universe, as far as I'm concerned.

So long BiGG, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

It's a pity BiGG couldn't play nice. That way, when gas hits $4 a gallon, he could have a total mental breakdown and join us on the dark side.

I'd vote yes, and heres why. Even though I agree that everyone has a right to say what they have to say on this site, the man said what he had to say, then said it again and again. It was time for him to get a new fucking moniker, but instead he just annoyed people by constantly posting the same garbage.

And threatening over the internet is just stupid-nothing ever happens.

That reminds me of a true story I heard out of South Korea. MMRPGS are popular there. You know, like Everquest? These two rival guilds were playing at seperate internet cafes. Two players in particular got into a big fight in game. The loser of that in game fight promptly got all his friends together, and went to the internet cafe where the other guy was. They dragged him outside and beat him half to death. 8O

They take internet gaming way too seriously over there, recently some guy was convicted for murdering his friend over an argument about a virtual artefact (sword) for, I think, Everquest, which they unlocked together and then sold to somebody.

Jesus Christ, he got a whole gang of people together to avenge a loss in everquest? I can't even imagine how someone can take those games so seriously. On the other hand, I don't think ive ever played an MMRPG...

I'd be interested in hearing how bigg threatened you, aaron. Do you mean with like a lawsuit? or did he say he was gonna get his freinds and show doomers how they do in cornicopia?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', 'N')o JD is not BIGG... well as far as I know anyway.

Thank god. JD actually starts interesting posts, while I generally ignore the drivel that BiGG spews. If I wanted to read drivel, I would read the ABC News website.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('erl', 'A')lso, what's to prevent him from signing on under another name?

Excuse me if this is elementary. I am not terribly computer literate. My engineering and IT friends cringe when I touch the keyboard.

Nothing really if he gets a whole new netblock to access the forum from. For most users, blocking the subnet will be sufficient (522.255.255.xxx). It will block access to people from dynamic IP adresses. Blocking the netblock (255.xxx.xxx.xxx), is a last resort, as that will restrict access to the most people on a largest scale, but it is very effecitve method for combating the onslaught os Spam. I have blocked off all of the RoK, and China from sending to my eMail address.

It's true that a new IP, and a new email address are all you need to join again, even if you are banned.

But the name BIGG is perm off limits.

That's the real kicker... & he had hit 1000 + posts...

Pretty smart guy... what a waste.

Says he accused me of threatening him to US law enforcement... which if true is a criminal offense.

And while we can't pin point the specific computer he was using, our logs show the assigned machine address & time stamp, which his ISP can identify.

The Yahoo email address can also be traced back to that machine from Yahoo's logs.
