Foreign Soldiers Recruited

Unread postby eastbay » Fri 05 Dec 2008, 22:01:07

A half million just lost their jobs, and the Pentagon pulls this garbage on us.

Recruiting Green Card holders is one thing. But recruiting foreigners on temporary visas? To do work Americans could do?

The military must be feeling happy and upbeat now because the voters just handed them an- historically- unprecedented- in- the- entire- history- of- humanity 98% mandate for more war. So they must think they can now do whatever they want. And they're probably right.

And we deserve it too. Expect more. Expect troops on American streets. And expect to see foreigners translating for them.

That's been going on since the start of the war in Iraq, as far as I know. I'm not sure about doctors and nurses... linguists for sure though. Oh and they're called contractors, not foreigners.

I have a few friends who are contractors. This is entirely different. This is DOD employment not subcontractor work. This is fast track to Green Card status. Completely new and different. And creepy.

My hubby has met many people doing work overseas. The first chance most people get they come here get their green card and go back as a contractor getting paid 4-6 times as much money. It's not much different, IMO.

To tell you the truth, it's probably cheaper for the the military to hire the same people, in the long run.

Gotta agree with you there. It'll be cheaper, that's for sure.

In fact, taking it one step further, it would be even cheaper still if 100% of the US armed forces serving overseas were staffed by hired guns from among the people living in the worlds many Very Poor Countries.

I mean what the heck, why not contract out the entire ugly and pointless war-making effort, none of which has anything whatsoever to do with protecting Americans or American interests anyhow. Why hire US soldiers do this dirty and deadly business if we can get foreigners to do it.

I'm sure you're joking. I have no feelings one way or another... And if I did, it wouldn't matter. We have no say anymore, and I'm tired of getting worked-up over things that are out of my control.

There are plenty of foreigners, I mean contractors, doing our fighting already. I wonder who pays the Iraqi Army now a days? I know it was in American dollars before... I'm not sure now.

Oh I'm only about 50% tongue in cheek (this time... heh).

But seriously, if the USA can hire non coalition people whose citizenship is outside of theater to cook, drive, clean, translate, nurse, and do a zillion other war-related chores, why not hire them to pull triggers and drop bombs too?

Wasn't this all covered in the D.R.E.A.M. act last year?

I'm sorry, but this news does not surprise me at all.
