Ok follow along with me a bit. Hopefully I don't make anyone angry with what follows but here goes.

If you hang out at survival forums, read apocalyptic fiction, or just watch the news, one feature of doom is the loss of services. Mayhem and desperation follows with a lot of violence over the remaining resources. What comes to mind with a lot of white middle class people is the black thug class rampaging the country-side and suburban areas a-raping and a-pillaging.

Now whether that would really happen is doubtful in my mind as people tend to stick to areas and racial groups that they know and are familiar with no matter what bad event happens. I think when my white suburban neighbor gets desperate enough he is just as likely to come around and try to take what I have. But the fear is there anyway and discussed frequently on doomer or survival forums. So this is why this site, and others that discuss apocalyptic happenings, are populated by fearful white middle class men who fear the black man is going to take everything they have and kill them.

Good question. I am in mixed race marriage, have mestizo children, have lived for decades in developing countries and have been usually surrounded by friends and family several shades darker than myself. When living in the USA the past 10 years we were in urban areas where my daughters had a tribe of friends that were racially very diverse.

So I have myself often pondered what you posted. My theory on this is that suburbanites live socially isolated lives, don't know many of their neighbors, derive alot of their culture through their TV's and social media and are therefore quite retarded when it comes to real life organic relationships or being in community. This primes them to be afraid. If they start looking at the topics we discuss and they think about their own survival the only skill set they can pull from is what they know in their isolated suburbia. This leads them to what I call
"The Rodent in the Hole" strategy of hording ammunition and food and being one man wolfpack so to speak. They have no skill sets imagining being integrated with others in any kind of survival situation because all they know is the socially isolated lifestyle of suburbia which of course is often racially segregated.

The fear of the black man or hispanic has another twist. They know that these racial groups, even though they have higher crime statistics, are more socially cohesive than your average white American. This social cohesiveness that other racial groups have frightens the lone wolf white suburbanite into digging his rodent hole deeper.
Patiently awaiting the pathogens. Our resiliency resembles an invasive weed. We are the Kudzu Ape

My belief is that most members of the global middle class and the poor (and several members of this forum) don't understand the idea of limits to growth, and when that is explained to them (using even reports from multinational banks and others warning of the same), they dismiss it by stating that some technofix will save everyone.

That's why even discussions of the same in other forums are negligible.

I would go as far as saying this: most people will only accept peak oil and the Limits to Growth as real when the supermarket shelves are empty of food and other essential goods, the gas stations run out of gas and petroleum (meaning no more fuel for transportation apparatuses such as cars, trucks, planes and boats) electronic gadgets can no longer be made (due to supply chain failure and shortages of critical resources such as rare earth elements), electricity starts running out or when permanent black outs start happening and/or when there is no more water coming out of the municipal taps. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised that some people are incredulous to the point of believing that a techno fix is around the corner or will eventually come to save them even as the aforementioned signs of societal and civilizational collapse are undeniable. I wouldn't be surprised that some people will continue to deny the limits to growth and the mortal demise of industrial civilization (along with most of its human inhabitants) with statements such as " free energy, nuclear fusion, wind, solar, biomass, or whatever alternative magical, nonsense energy source will save us" even when they are desperately searching for food, water, fuel and other essential goods after industrial civilization collapses.
History repeats itself. Just everytime with different characters and players.
