This is going to seem totally out of character for me, but after viewing the SPR photos, I can kind of understand why the feds might not be too happy with the guy.
Let me put it this way:
Let's say your the president. You are responsible for the economic well-being of the nation. You know there is a massive oil crisis coming and that supplies are likely to both decline due to geology and suffer from disruptions due to war/terrorism. This means the SPR is of absolute supreme life-and-death importance. Given that, I'd be a little concerned that such detailed photos of it should are circulating on the internet.
Speaking of the SPR, I think about the only wise think Bush has done in 4 plus years is keep that thing filled. Heck, if I was the president I'd say, "we only have 35 days on hand?!!!" WTF - we need a hell of alot more than that!!! Get Halliburton or whoever down there and get that shit filled up to at least 3-4 months worth."

Matt, I read your book by getting one of the copies you printed some time ago from a guy I know. Great read to further explore the implications of what will be when the consequences of doing nothing and further depending on oil and gas will be realized.
I'd suggest you add some sort of link to the crytome SPR page in newer editions (e-books mostly).
Call me crazy but I think the SPR will never be consumed completely by human beings. When things get rough who ever is in charge of the govt. will tap it to give people false hope about their lives not being shattered by this event. The SPR will be unable to support even a day of "normal" oil consumption in our nation.
When the first wave of economic problems occurs all bets are off. Unemployed people who can't buy gasoline or cheap food with what money they do have left will be a problem. Keep in mind that everyone in the govt. is also an individual who has a family, eats food, and consumes oil in one way or another on a daily basis.
In short order the govt. won't be able to even control its own emplyees. The SPR will likely be abondoned at some point as the elite flee to whatever sanctuary they have created in remote locations. With no polity to govern, no engineers and scientists to maintain and monitor the SPR, and no plant opperators to process the petrolium it will likely stay sealed in the earth indefinately.
If the population crash occurs and society rebuilds after hundreds of years some poor sap might drill into the SPR and strike black gold which would be a huge tap of energy if the population of North America is like under 500K people.
The real irony would be when they peaked again as the SPR passses the 50% depletion point from when they started extraction.
That's just to add a bit of humor to this. Petrolim requires massive energy costs to refine, transport, and even market. It will likely be left in the ground for good IMHO.
