I just finished reading Desert Solitaire, and that's a book that stays with you, you'll remember the places he went and the things he did and thought forever.
I just got The Monkeywrench Gang from the library today, and just started on the very beginning. I am overwhelmed with the power this guy had as a writer.
I plan on reading all of Abbey's stuff!

Yeah, someone on the board, I think it was Toecutter described it as "Mad Max meets The Monkeywrench gang." Which I think is a good description.
Abbey wrote a fair amount of fiction and non-fiction. His most notable fiction is The Monkeywrench Gang followed probably by Hayduke Lives.
He always wanted to be recognized for his fiction, but he is best remembered for his non-fiction...notably Desert Solitaire and a bunch of other works that are equally as good.
The Serpents of Paradise is a good compilation of his work.

I'm about halfway through Monkeywrench now, good stuff!
