Hey everyone, I'm looking for information from anyone who has had jaw surgery (for dental reasons - the sort of procedure where your bite is brought into alignment and your jaw has to be wired shut afterwards). Or, if you've known anyone who's had it done, your experience with this would be helpful to me.

My daughter will be having this done in about a year, and I am nervous about it. Some complications are possible, though most of the stories I've heard have been fairly reassuring. I will be her primary caregiver after the surgery. Anyone been through this?

I think the biggest potential complication of that sort of procedure would be a non-union of the bone afterwards. I think it's pretty rare, but would end up being a really crappy deal if it did.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BlinkBlink', 'I') had my lower mandible extended to fix a dental problem I had. My face was very puffy for a few days. Not a whole lot of pain.

There was a slight amount of nerve damage which is almost completely better after 6 years. When I rub my chin I get a very slight tingle. This was quite noticeable and annoying after the surgery. Particularly when shaving which I hope isn't going to be a problem for your daughter.
