Thimerosal has the formula C9H9HgNaO2S aka ethylmercury-sodium-thiosalicylate. This puts it in the same class of neurotoxic chemicals as methylmercury CH3Hg. You wanna link to some actual clinical trials? In-vitro only lays the foundation for clinical trials. Oxygen and water can be toxic given the right circumstances. As Preston said, where is this decline in autism since removal of thimerosal. The MMR scare took hold in the UK and the only thing increasing is vaccine preventable diseases. It's also funny that you link to Wakefield, a guy who failed to disclose obvious financial conflicts of interest in his study whose results have never been replicated linking autism to vaccines.

Thimerosal was ultimately removed to quell this hysteria, because even though it was proven time and again that it did not cause autism, the public and the litigation did not relent. The likes of fucking Jenny McCarthy had them convinced otherwise.

The physiology behind autism is still poorly understood. One of the world's leading neuroscientists is positing the idea that it is not a result of neurological degeneration, but a sort of hyper-responsiveness in the brain. The brain has more, not less, neurocellular connections. If this is indeed the cases, this would further squash this setback to public health.

I won't bother with the obvious strawman BS about in vitro vs. in vivo. It has been demonstrated that microgram ethylmercury concentrations kill cortical neurons. If you consider in vivo you get overloading of infants with shots and auto-immune responses, compounding of factors you cannot even begin to see in vitro. Somehow in vivo ethylmercury is supposed to become less of a toxin and auto-immune trigger. Keep peddling the crap, it's just so plausible.

Again, thiermosal was never proven to cause autism. It was removed from vaccine because the initial hysteria was scaring parents from vaccinating their children, as well as the flood of litigation that ensued from vaccine injury cases. You tell me to follow the money, but you don't seem to understand how the anti-vax movement has become a business in and of itself. It's not just lawyers, but alternative medicine practitioners. "Your child has mercury in his body, so why don't you pay us to remove it using unfounded, quack therapies like chelation?".

This was the most current thread regarding vaccines, so forgive me for resurrecting something so old.

However, due to the recent outbreaks of measles at both Disneyland and a daycare in Palatine, on top of the mountains of evidence released each year demonstrating the safety of vaccinations for a vast majority of the population, as well as new research highlighting that autism begins in utero, does the anti-vaccination crowd feel stupid yet? I know there is or at least was a pretty significant amount of posters who admonished childhood vaccinations.

How does it feel to be basically on the same level as AGW denialists? I mean, unless you actually want children dead to reduce the population.

The rate of autism has shot up from 1 in 2000 live births to 1 in 150. Until they find out what is the cause of this increase and prove they are right by retuning the rate to the 1 in 2000 level this debate will remain open.
