Denny is right. Except for a few highly imaginative people who delude themselves into believing that the French government used provocateurs to incite these riots, most in France will support the police as they try to quell the riots, and will applaud Sarkozy's strong words against the rioters. 8)

The French riots remind me of the LA riots in the early 1990s.

Most of America saw the rioters for what they were, a bunch of thugs.

Some Americans saw the rioters are "freedom fighters" or "oppressed underclass minorities voicing their frustration."

The savagery of the rioters surprised the French

punks rioted in France

And its only going to get worse, as the immigrant population in France (and elsewhere in Europe) is growing rapidly. 8)

You guys seem to live in a bubble lala land..

The black "thugs" were originally shipped to the US from Africa as slaved labour, as the US begun to deindustrialized in the late 70/80s it was more than convenient to anesthetize this no work prospect population by the "crack epidemic" and other gov. schemes..

In terms of the "savagery" of rioters in France, well why the hell they invited their ancestors as cheap labor in the first place and then allowed to grow this problem to such proportions in recent decades?
This was likely one helluva outcome from the get go..

From the doom-poom-kaboom perspective, this makes for an additional explosive element in the mix so it will bring this "civilization" down that much faster, which is "normatively good"..

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Mesuge', ' ')...slaved labour.

The closest connection that most of the rioters in France had to the slave trade was that their Arab ancestors may have sold black slaves to French merchantmen to transport to French plantations in Haiti. 8)

That's a crazy news segment. That's what's coming up all over the world. I would say thanks for the link, but I feel a little creeped out by that.

It's happening all over Europe. People are at breaking point over our $10-11 a gallon petrol and diesel. In my local area petrol stations have been running dry due to the fuel strikes, some schools have even been closed, and this is just the beginning.

Not that bad because it's only the French?

Only the French? The video says$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')rom India to Portugal demonstrators have been voicing their anger at the soaring cost of diesel. Spain has seen some of the worst disruption.
Spain, Portugal, India...

France is not mentioned even once in this video. Did you watch the video? Not that bad because it's only the French...

I did not make my point clearly then. This is unusual but not all that unusual for Europe. These sort of nationwide strikes and riots hit various countries from time to time over things like EU subsidies, BSE, Fishing quota's. The French tend to do this sort of thing every couple of years. Taken out of context it looks like a world spinning out of control. However it is a problem but nothing that has not been seen before.

In the UK the nation was brought to a virtual standstill in 2001 with similar protests.

I searched and found this. It is being reported. The big question now is how many people are actually paying attention? NY Times Link 6.15.08

Very interesting.

But what's more interesting is how little of this is penetrating the U.S. media. One might think they are trying to avoid discussing troubling things, mightn't one?

I can't notice anything in Germany. Live goes on as always. Ok, milk got more expensive by a few €-cent recently.
I now have to pay ~60 €-cent per litre, imho still way to cheap(!)...

German government even decided to raise(!) the tax for truckers using the autobahn (Maut) these days..

Imho, that's quite ok.

The U.S. News isn't covering any of this. Don't scare people? Don't scare people in an election year? Continue the American ignorance? Its laughable that world governments will tolerate an overspending, gas guzzling American society but not tolerate their own people rioting for food and lower fuel prices. The short term solution high fuel prices is easy, quit financing the bloated US gov't, crash its economy, and there will be plenty of fuel for everyone else. But, the world gov'ts won't do that.

Intead, the world will continue to tolerate the intolerable hypocritical US, best personified in the world giving that fat, gas guzzling, energy hog Al Gore a nobel prize for what, going green? Jeeze, the world would be a lot greener if he weren't living in it. If Al Gore's electrical usage would power 250 U.S. homes, how many homes would that power in China? India? Zimbabwe?

Seems like every couple of years for truckers specifically, and more often for all protests/strikes.
