I'll third A Boy and his Dog. That's how I feel sometimes.

Thanks for the list sites, good Netflix fodder.

If you like Humorous 80's movies - Night of the Comet

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')wo pretty high school girls (one a cheerleader!) don't like their mother or her new boyfriend ("Daddy would have gotten us Uzis!"). One morning, they wake up to find that everybody in Los Angeles has been turned to dust by a Comet except them, a guy who looks like Erik Estrada, some zombies and the occupants of a secret underground government installation.

I haven't seen apocalypto yet, however, I keep thinking how Mel Gibson is kinda the Kubric of our times. Remember how he got really drunk and yelled out the Jews are responsible for all wars right before the release of apocalypto. Remember the movie Signs, it was so bad that it had to mean something else, checkout the cover art for the movie. He did the bloody Christ movie as well and don't forget mad max.

My pick, close encounter of the third kind, and not for obvious reasons, you kinda have to go down the rabbit hole to figure it out.

Most of the movie makers are on the controllers side.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') stuck with the cramps, that PMS inflicted. His swelling ego caused my brain to hurt and contract at the same time.

If I caused your brain to hurt, I must be doing something right. And saying I have a big ego is, to me, a compliment. It translates to something like: PMS has a secure identity. It means I can project a sense of being someone. Not for me the Emily Dickinson "I'm nobody. Who are You? Are you Nobody too?" Now I did take the online psychology test that shows me low in narcissism and all the other pathologies except 'histrionic'. Egoism and narcissism make a bad combination, but there is nothing wrong with having a "big ego." A big histrionic ego is why Aaron made me an "expert!"

Yes, it is superb if a little bit creative with history.

I'm surprised noone mentioned Children of Men yet.
I really really.....really liked that movie.

I thought 28 weeks later was (much) better than 28 days...
Especially how the soldiers acted after they started loosing control.

Equilibrium is also quite OK. About how people aren't supposed to have feelings anymore or anything cultural or intellectual.

The Last Winter

This movie just came out...have yet to see it...

3 reviews among many:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')THE LAST WINTER is a stunning wake up call, a bold exploration of the horror of unchecked global warming that is sure to move new audiences to action." Peter Klebnikov, Editorial Director, Environmental Defense

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '')a somber horror film with a dour ending and social message that, over time, may prove to be closer to non-fiction drama than humanity might appreciate — a welcome entry into the enviro-horror cannon.”
Trevor Tuminski, RUE MORGUE

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')while the movie's too genre-bound to climb into the cherry-picker with Al Gore, it hints at a coming B-movie apocalypse: a rough beast freed by rising temperatures and only now slouching home. In "The Last Winter," we meet the alien and the alien is us." Ty Burr, THE BOSTON GLOBE
"It is no measure of health to be deemed sane in an insane society" J. Krishnamurti

I like Mel Gibson. For some reason i think he gets it. He also had that movie where he was all paranoid finding clues in newspapers and magazines??

I've seen Apocalypto (good, not excellent, but good...love the temple scene).

I really liked Children of Men...the movie actually left me feeling scared when i went home from the movie theater (never has a movie done that to me..i grew up watching every slasher flick). I think of the movies i've seen, this one paints a pretty realistic picture of the future.

V is for Vendetta is one of my favorite movies. I know V is a little too "superhero" for reality, but the rest of the movie seems to portray things well (MSM, government coverups, etc).

I'm going to check out that "Southland Tales" and get back to you on that. Sounds really interesting, and "Donnie Darko" is sitting on the shelf right now.

I've seen "Postman" a long time ago, but can't even remember anything from it.

Yup it is, it follows the scenario which Jared Diamond drew in "Collapse". I liked the movie.

OK

My list:

1. Dr. Strangelove!
2. 1984
3. A scanner darkly - (I like PKD) and Blade Runner
4. V for Vendetta
5. Gattaca - process of creating elites by eugenics/not apocalytpic but still dystopian
6. The Island (which is technotopian, but it starts with doomsday climate)
7. Doomsday
8. The day after tomorrow
9. Polish sf comedy 'Sexmission' world is occupied only by women as men genes disappear, world is destroyed, women live in mines. Two guys hibernated are woken up. Hilarious 8)
10. Waterworld - silly, but funny.
11. Matirx - you know technodystopia after all ;)
12. The stand based on Stephen King's novel.

And all sort of cyberpunk from Japan ;)
