Anyone here in college?

What's college life like? I am in college and today is the last day of finals but I was wondering how many people here are college students?

Here here. Last day of real exams. I got one take-home left for geology due next tuesday.

If you're in college, why are you asking about others' lives in college?

Just to see what their experience as POers is like. I like this on-line community and I have been curious how many are college students. I am in between finals right now. Took physics this morning and next is philosophy and then I'm done for the semester. People on this board have a unique persepective on everything and I wanted to know what college students think about their lives and prospects. Maybe even what they are studying to become. That's all, nothing major.

grad school here, architecture (urban design)

I have a fabulously large graphic presentation due next Thursday; basically redesigning all of west Dallas into large TODs.

Of course it's delusional and hopelessly optimistic, but at least it's rewarding. :)

I'm an undergrad. Physics.

I figure if anything can get us out of this mess, it's physics.

Agreed.
As for myself, I'm in college too and have been studying electrical engineering for three years.

College life is pretty damn boring to myself. The interesting subjects keep me from dropping out though.

Thanks a lot for responding guys. It looks like a lot of the hard sciences, though, which is what I expected. Thanks again.

Biotechnology now.

Transfering to another school, and switching to environmental engineering, or geology.

Unless I go on to get a Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, I'm out of college in a week.

Congrats. What are your plans if you don't go? Self-employment?

I'll probably end up working in an industry involving wind power or electric vehicles in order to raise the cash to start my own company.

Defense contractors, oil companies, and the like are completely out of the picture. I'd rather see harm brought to the people running them, than to ever work for them.

Failing finding a job I want, I'll probably work a shitty $10/hour job to pay down any student loans and get my electric car on the road, while looking for something involving renewable energy. This summer, I will be working with another engineer on a concert-sized class D audio amplifier of our own design, perhaps get a patent on it, and sell it. Gotta' love the Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion...

can i join too - only one year after garduating, please ahhahah

now seriously, i really post to say that i'm impressed what The_Toecutter wrote, just vote for Ron Paul if he runs, then maybe you can work for defense contractors without any issues against what's you're contributing to

good luck finding a job if you don't stay in school

Juco baby, woohoo!!!

I'm studying to be a respiratory therapist, which I am kind of regretting. Vents are kind of boring. I wanted to do nursing but can't afford the BSN and the wait times and/or prereqs for either hospital, juco, or nursing college programs usually add up to about two years b/f someone can enter.

I'm already halfway through the program, as well. So, it wouldn't make much sense to pull out now. I don't want to have keep working at the grocery store at $11.50 an hour when I could be making $25.00-30.00 hrly plus OT, night, weekend bonuses.

I want to move out of the really big city to a smaller city and work on BSN (another 3 years of school) if conditions allow it. If not, I'll probably end up being drafted and working in military hospital

Keep smoking those cigarettes, please.

Lol... grocery stores in your area pay you that much?

In St. Louis, you're likely to get minimum wage.

Yea, around here. If you are getting 11.50 an hour, you are living well.

Well, I started out a Walgreen's making $6.50 when I was 17. I worked there for about three years and ended finished making $8.10. Then got a job as an EMT for a private ambulance service at $9.00. I did that for two months until I was hired by Trader Joe's for $9.25.

Yes, a job that requires life-saving skills, although RARELY used at a private ambulance service, pays less than a grocery store job.

Trader's holds monthly performance reviews every quarter. You can earn as much as a 50 cent raise every review. I usually avg. about 30-35 cents a review b/c I don't smile enough and don't show enough enthusiam for the products. I was able to argue for a $1 increase once.

So, when you consider my experience, $11.50 an hour isn't completely unreasonable. I only pay about $45 a month for insurance,as well. It's not crappy insurance either.

Not a bad gig for a college student. Not really too bad a gig for anyone. If it weren't for PO and considering how horribly unmotivated I am, I might've just decided to stay there and slack off the rest of my life.

Undergrad in Environmental Studies, minor in Aviation. Currently a flight instructor hoping PO won't be so bad, but coupled with all the doom and gloom I exaggerate through my major, I see no light at the end of the tunnel.

:-D  :(

I originally studied nursing but couldn't get my head around the tests so I am now going to be a paralegal which can net $30-55,000 a year.
