$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'Y')ou guys know whats funny?
200 some odd years ago the people of this country went to war over a 1% tax.
Now? Shit, You couldnt get the average Joe to get off his fat ass to even write his Senator or Congressman over a 10% tax, let alone pick up a gun and make a difference.

Actually, it was over corporate monopoly power, supported by the government. But your point still stands.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', ' ')What's gonna happen when Bush et al set off a back-pack nuke in Cleveland and blame it on Al Queda?

Well, so long as it's only Cleveland ... :P

Thanks Erl and Grimnir.

I feel a bit less paranoid about this now. It was in the back of my mind that this had happened before, but I couldn't dig it out of the brain compost.

My residual paranoia is due to the fact that we live in strange times and many of us wonder and worry about the near future and how our lives will be disrupted by too many nasty possibilities.

Just an FYI

When I stated that if the amendment had passed back during Clintons years. I wasn't stating support for or against him or Bush either. The thought was that whatever side you favor. The change could work for you or against you.

Personally, I favor the continued limit on terms.

About smallpoxgirls comment and DriveElectric's following comment.

We mod's are human and do think and have opinions too!

I am not worried about Bush doing this thing she meantioned anyway. He will be out of office soon.

It’s Hillary RODHAM Clinton that I would worry about. 8O

(I did not have sex with that woman! Oh, I thought you meant Hillary!  Perfectly understandable mistake? )
Peace out!

Here's another vote against. Too easy to end up with a dynasty of one kind or another, particularly in times of emergency.

What if... three terms for Hillary and then her VP runs for President and gets three terms...? That's a year shy of a quarter-century.

As for the Arnold Amendment: he'd make a decent President but OTOH not at the expense of modding the Constitution again.

I don't like all the Constitutional activism going around lately. The only saving grace is that the Founders made it deliberately hard to pass amendments, so the process takes a good long time, during which, hopefully saner heads prevail.

As for taxes: The other day I saw pics of a blown-up Humvee that had been rigged with "home made armor" because we're too cheap to send our warriors into battle properly equipped. The pic that got to me was the one with blood stains that were from blood that had poured out of the rear of the vehicle: at least one of ours didn't make it. And then it occurred to me: "Your Tax Cuts At Work Here."

Another friend of mine has just signed up (Marines). Enough is enough: we have got to get off our asses, get serious about victory, give our troops the materiel they need, increase troop strength by a minimum of 30,000, and then ... well, not quite "seal" the borders of Iraq, just position a line of infantry a mile or two inside the border, so when the foreign insurgents sneak across from Syria, Saudi, and Lebanon, they'll be greeted by GI Joe, and *that* will be the end of *that.* And if it means higher taxes, tough: self-indulgence does not win wars.

Oh, this is just so Arnold can run for President, I dunno if he's right-wing enough for me though.

If we can get someone who will uphold the three "ists", Nationalist, Protectionist, Isolationist, then who cares if they come from some podunk town in Austria? But I fear Arnold doesn't have the guts to stand up for the three ists....

i think we'd be headed for rough times if the country had to fend for it's self. but we'd pull through. Think of all the jobs that would not go over seas. On the other hand, everyone would have to drive American cars, which are good two things: a/c and suspension.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Dezakin', '
')You're wrong.

The 14th ammendment certainly limited our rights in that it forces states to endure the provisions of the US constitution, so you can't vote away your neighbor's right to not go to the same church you go to in your state. Similarly the 10th ammendment has been so perverted by the Wickard decision that anything the fed wants to regulate it calls commerce.

The 14th limits the right to limit people's rights? I guess you could look at the 1st as limiting the right to limit our right to free speech, too, but that seems a bit weird. The 10th -- she's just an innocent lass taken advantage of by the mean men in the gov.

But, I was wrong... the 27th. Limits your right to vote yourself an immediate payraise, should you be a member of congress. Ouch!
