Is what the airline industry is losing every minute, as said in this article.

When will it end

When i'm out fishing i always watch the planes take off thinking...how much longer can this last? US airlines is probably going to lose $5 billion this year, yet they continue to go on. If oil makes it 4th quarter move then it'll have to shut down some airlines, won't it? I feel planes will be around for a long time, but only for the rich and powerful.

I'm glad i don't like to fly.

I'd agree with raising the prices to curb demand. I don't get why people are so set on flying, unless your going international travel, there's alternatives to flying. All it takes a just a little bit more time.

I can't drive to California in under 3 days. It would cost more in gas, hotels, food, and time than flying. People shouldn't fly from Boston to New York City, but some distances are too great to be done by car/bus/train. I say we use more video conferences. What's the great advantage of being in the same room as someone else if you are trying to buy insurance?

When the Middle Class loses the ablility to fly, the airlines will have to contract. The US might end up with only 2 or 3 airlines by 2015. Eventually air travel will vanish completely, but until then, the major carriers will lose billions of dollars every year. I suggest we start shorting Delta stock. I think Delta is going the way of Pan Am or the US Federal Government.

I think people have suggested they are on a "race to the bottom" to shed liabilities and restructure through bankruptcy to see who will be the "last man standing."
