At least we can all be greatfull that we are on "the other half." I would oppose equal distribution of wealth, sounds like communism and we all know how that DOESNT work. When there is no incentive to get ahead nobody works.

Besides... I like having money for nothing.

If a car crashes into a tree, is it the car's fault or is it the drunk driver behind the wheel? Don't say communism doesn't work. Two things. Communism was never practiced the way it was originally intended to be. Secondly, the system itself wasn't the problem, it was the people who were running it.

Also, the idea that nobody works if there is no incentive to get ahead is sadly, a characteristic and core flaw of a capitalist society. A capitalist society fuels the concept of moving up and consuming the next more expensive thing. Animals never worry about getting ahead, all they need is the bare essentials. We are technically animals, but somewhere down the line, it wasn't good enough to have only what we needed to survive.

Capitalism has turned us into compulsive, possessive, materialistic and grossly spoiled people. You prove my claims by your statement, "Besides...I like having money for nothing."

That's a typically capitalist statement. Especially since what most people buy is practically nothing. Most things are simply marketed with an artificial need that doesn't really exist and means to fill a void that people have in their mediocre and mundane lives.

Sencha - correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the communist dream that everyone got to own and drive a Rolls Royce? Capitalism for all? Equality of ownership? Or are you suggesting there would be a limited number of them and the plan was to take turns? :?

where did i propose communism? i didn't...although sencha is right, its never been seen on this planet in an uncorrupted state....precisely because, like i said, after the revolution the enemy was still there just like always. in the general knowledge, there was still the same old mistake, so it was just "new boss same as the old boss".

have you others looked at the world today...and human history...and where we're headed? it is 100% self-destructive, insane self-delusion to think you are getting money for nothing. it is diabolic stupidity. no one need fool you: you have fooled yourself. you prove my whole point about myopic vision, sigh. you have no capacity to imagine things could and should be much better? really? i find that so frightening!

i know my post was very long, and you have every right not to read it. but please don't put words in my mouth. i am not joking around here. i am sincerely concerned for the future of living beings....your child as much as my own.

one other thing...please get out a dictionary and look up the difference between "equal" and "equitable".

i never said a word about equal distribution of wealth.

if a big man and his teeny toddler are both at the dinner table, the loving mother does not give them equal portions. she gives them equitable portions.

Anna - Stalin made for a wonderful mother figure.

You and Sencha are wrong about communism never having been properly tried in an uncorrupted state. Pol Pot had a pretty good crack at it with Year Zero and even addressed your boss class conundrum - he simply killed them all. Couldn't have a more thorough crack at it than that.

Flip beyond 'E' and have a look under 'U' for utopia.

I know there is probably a quotations thread, but I hope these are allowed here. They speak to my messages above…

“The feud between the capitalist and laborer, the house of Have and the house of Want, is as old as social union, and can never be entirely quieted; but he who will act with moderation, prefer fact to theory, and remember that everything in this world is relative and not absolute, will see that the violence of the contest may be stilled.â€

Apperantly Ted Kennedy has joined the Socialist party.

http://www.thetranscript.com/Stories/0, ... 12,00.html

"WASHINGTON -- Sen. Edward M. Kennedy sought to rally reeling Democrats Wednesday by prescribing a "progressive vision for America,"

...

Kennedy, D-Mass., laid a new road map for the Democratic Party, one that would emphasize the party's values -- something Republicans did successfully in the months leading up to the presidential election.

He acknowledged that Democrats were "remiss in not talking more directly" about those values, which he said can unite Americans, while Republicans sow division.

..."We must oppose it,
[the Bush Social Security reform bill], -- and we will defeat it," Kennedy said. "We will not let any president turn the American dream into a nightmare for senior citizens and a bonanza for Wall Street.""

Current old people would not be effected, and persons still with 30 years to retirement would only feel a "pinch" if they invested thier money improperly. A 401k, (or stock in Caterpiller), are much better investments that social security could ever hope to be. Social security was meant as an income suppliment according to the "New Deal" package offered by Roosevelt, not as a sole means of income for retired persons. Retirees were still encouraged to have a private pension.

"He'll propose a decade-long expansion of Medicare, called Medicare for All. It's intended to provide healthcare for all citizens, "from birth to the end of life," he said.

Kennedy also said he'll pursue initiatives to increase to the federal minimum wage, reduce dependence on foreign oil by investing in "clean energy,"
(good luck on that, it may be too late now to advert disaster), secure a week of sick time for poor workers, and propose a plan to provide free college education.

"I propose that every child in America, upon reaching eighth grade, be offered a contract," Kennedy said. "The contract will state that if you work hard, if you finish high school and are admitted to college, we will guarantee you the cost of earning a degree."

The program would be paid for, he said, with money transferred away from the fees collected from colleges by private student loan providers.

This all seems very socialist to me. What's next? a 30% VAT with 50% income tax as the low bracket?
