I can appreciate your frustration Mrobert. I think one of the prolific respondants on PO has the trailer, " the modern state is a wonderful invetion whereby everyone lives at the expense of someone else."
It's too bad that so many in the developed world have the fantasy that everyone has a right to profit without sacrifice. I wish they would all visit Romania or any other former communist country to see the final result of this mentality. We seem to have forgotten that protection of individual property rights is what made the Western world wealthy in the first place.
Nevertheless, there will always be parasitic classes of people: neocons who think they have a right to steal oil, the entitlement crowd who tax others and vote the benefits to themselves, Romania's gypsies. It is easy to get frustrated, but ultimately you just have to protect yourself from this theft. A great book is, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World. It deals with going beyond the frustration and the futile attempts to rally others. Society will only realize its mistakes once things have collapsed to a certain point. In the meantime you have to protect yourself. You could run around all day yelling about peak oil and what the government should do. Or you can just invest based on your knowledge and watch the profits roll in. You can complain that the gypsies, democrats, etc. are taxing you and giving it to themselves. Or you can spend your time trying to find ways to escape these taxes. There will always be parasites, you just have to effectively protect yourself rather than sit as a target.
