The corvette's size is an illusion anyway. I went to check it out and found this :

Exterior Dimensions
Corvette
Wheelbase
104.5/2655.5
Length (overall)
179.7/4565.6
Width (overall)
73.6/1869.6
Height (overall)
47.7/1211.5 (hardtop and coupe), 47.8/1214.7 (convertible)
Tread — front
62.1/1577.3
Tread — rear
62.2/1579.9

Compare to 2005 Mustang GT :

Length
187.6
Top Type (Standard)
Hard Fixed
Top Type (Optional)
Not Applicable
Track (Front)
62.3
Track (Rear)
62.5
Weight Distribution AT (Front)
Not Listed
Weight Distribution AT (Rear)
Not Listed
Weight Distribution MT (Front)
Not Listed
Weight Distribution MT (Rear)
Not Listed
Wheelbase
107.1
Width
74.0

The corvette is shorter and narrower. In fact, it's only slightly larger than the 911 Carrera :
2005 911 Carrera
Exterior Dimensions & Weight
Length × Width × Height in:
175.6 × 71.2 × 51.2
Weight lb (kg):
3131 (1422)
Performance
Acceleration 0-62 mph s:
4.6
Top Speed mph (km/h):
182 (293)
Fuel Economy EPA city/highway mpg (l/100 km):
n.a.

And about the same size as a 93 supra turbo :
1993 Toyota Supraensions
WheelBase
2550 mm / 100.4 in
Length
4514 mm / 177.7 in
Height
1275 mm / 50.2 in
Width
1811 mm / 71.3 in
Weight
1565 kg / 3450 lbs

I think the size illusion is due to its low height. It's roofline is considerably lower than any of the above cars.

IMO, even the Porsches and Supras are pigs.

I don't think modern Porsches are at all small. In fact, 3,100 pounds is at least 600 pounds overweight.

You want small? How about a Lotus 11? Porsche 550 Spyder? Abarth 2000-OT?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hoplite', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Omnitir', 'I') agree – small cars with high-tech adjustments like turbos are great against bigger and older rigs on the streets. But put a small car up against a large powerful one on a race track, and after the initial 10 seconds the large cars will flog the smaller ones. Just look at European super car races – the small light-weight turbocharged Porsche almost always gets flogged by the massive ultra-heavy V12 Lamborghini. –Provided the driver has the appropriate skill.

At the end of the day, there simply is nothing higher performance then sheer cubic inches.

Thats NOT true, the lowly AC/Ford Cobra of 1964 absolutely OWNED Ferrari/Porsche shocking the racing world with world class performance at 1/10th the cost of the Italian supercars. I happen to own a hand built (by me) replica of the 1965 427 AC Cobra. (www.factoryfive.com kit car). This car exceeds the performance of ANY modern supercar at almost any price- I have less than 50k US$ into mine.

My factory Five 65 Roadster stats:
0-60 3.2 seconds
1/4 mile 10.8 seconds/ 132 MPH
Over 180 MPH (although admittedly its not stable at over 160)
MPG: 15 city 18 highway
Curb weight 2200lbs.
lateral accel: 1.05 G
0-100-0 14 seconds

The above performance is acheived with a 392 CI Ford Small block (Bored and stroked 351 Windsor).

Not sure why you say "NOT true" - your car defines the phrase "there is no substitute for cubic inches"!!!! (Great car BTW!!)

I know a substitute for cubic inches.

It's called an electric motor, controller, and some batteries.

Did you guys get the Mazda RX7 in the US?

Howled like a banshee with an engine which was virtually a six cyl 2stroke (twin rotor, 3cyl/rotor) and performed better.

Just read the Motor Trend article on the new Z06.
0-60 in 3.5 seconds
1/4 mile in 11.5@127 mph
like 192 mph top speed
EPA estimated 28 mpg highway !
What a bad ass car
