A wildlife biologist, and environmental scientist and planner, Leon is the author of “Where Salmon Come to Die: An Autumn on Alaska’s Raincoast” and was a contributing writer to “Life on the Brink: Environmentalists Confront Overpopulation.”

In a career that spans three decades, three countries and more than 30 states, Leon has managed environmental impact statements for many federal agencies on projects ranging from dams and reservoirs to coal-fired power plants, power lines, flood control projects, road expansions, management of Civil War battlefields, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center operations and a proposed uranium mine on a national forest. He also has worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to develop comprehensive conservation plans at more than 40 national wildlife refuges from the Caribbean to Alaska.

The writer’s views are his own.

August 29, 2016

The world’s population grew by 89 million in 2015, according to the demographers at the respected Population Reference Bureau (PRB) in Washington, D.C., who have been compiling and analyzing demographic data since 1929. In mid-2016, we stand at approximately 7.4 billion people, and counting. Counting very rapidly, in fact.

In 2015, there were 57 million deaths worldwide, far surpassed by a staggering 146 million births. Every minute, on average, there was a net increase of some 169 people, and every day, an already overburdened Mother Earth had to somehow furnish food, clean freshwater, wood, energy, land, raw materials and a safe, stable climate for 244,000 new claimants and consumers.

It has been practically an article of faith for us population scholars and activists that global population growth has been slowing down as families worldwide opt for fewer children and girls and women are educated, empowered and employed. Global fertility rates and family sizes have indeed plunged in most regions over the past half-century, and contraceptive use and family planning have risen dramatically, again, in most, but importantly, not in all, regions.

But when we are dealing with the treachery of unsustainable exponential growth, it is all too easy to perceive progress to date on these important fronts as sufficient to resolve the problem, when in fact it is merely necessary. And the gap between sufficient and necessary is huge.

The bottom line is this: Is global population growth actually slowing down? Are we truly approaching population stabilization on a global scale?

And the distressing answer is a resounding NO.

If global population growth were actually slowing down, then 10 years earlier, in 2005, the world’s population should have increased by more than it did in 2015. But this is not what has actually happened.

Using the same data sources, the PRB’s World Population Data Sheets for 2004 and 2005, we see that global population increased by 81 million between mid-2004 and mid-2005. In other words, in 2015, the world’s human population grew by eight million more than it had a decade earlier, in 2005.

The annual rate of increase measured by percentage was 1.2 percent in both 2005 and 2015, but this identical percentage was applied to a larger population base, so the annual increment increased from 81 million in 2005 to 89 million in 2015.

Back in 2005, PRB projected a global population of 9.3 billion in 2050. Now it projects 9.8 billion in 2050. Both the U.S. Census Bureau and the United Nations Population Division are also revising their projections upward. To any thinking or humane person, this should be a cause for deep consternation rather than celebration.

There are three main reasons for this serious setback on the road to a sustainable, stabilized global human population. First, fertility rates have remained stubbornly high in sub-Saharan Africa; they have not fallen in that region like demographers and economists had earlier planned and hoped. Of the top 12 countries with the highest fertility rates in the world, all of them are in Africa, with Niger the highest, at 7.6 (i.e., on average, each woman in Niger gives birth to between seven and eight children).

Having increased very rapidly over the past half century to one billion inhabitants at present, the population of Africa alone is projected to shoot up to four billion by 2100, and still be growing. The extreme pressure to migrate to Europe in desperate search of work and opportunity, already intense in these poor countries with high unemployment and few prospects, is only predicted to intensify. It is a recipe for social strife, conflict and even chaos, as we are seeing in Europe already.

Second, in some areas, fertility rate declines have stalled out, and in certain countries, fertility rates that had been falling have begun to increase again. In Egypt, for example, the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in 2005 was 3.2; by 2015, it had edged back up to 3.5. In 2005, PRB projected that there would be 126 million Egyptians by 2050; now, in 2015, PRB is projecting 162 million Egyptians by 2050. In 1960, Egypt’s population was a mere 28 million!

If these projections come to pass, the grim squalor in that overcrowded country hugging the overstressed Nile River will only worsen for many tens of millions of inhabitants, which is good news only to Islamist extremists looking to recruit waves of unemployed, alienated and sexually frustrated young men as suicide bombers and jihadi warriors.

Third, in still other countries that had already achieved replacement or sub-replacement fertility, fear bordering on hysteria over the economic and social effects of inevitable population aging has led governments to incentivize or even coerce women into having more children. This has happened in countries as diverse as China, Vietnam and Iran. China has ended its one-child policy, while Vietnam’s TFR increased from 2.2 in 2005 to 2.4 in 2015.

The need to provide ever more energy for an ever-increasing population
will alone generate massive environmental impacts. Clockwise from top right:
the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform explodes into flames in the Gulf of Mexico, ironically on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010; solar photovoltaic panels cover desert habitats; proliferating power lines; an oil-soaked pelican; mining impacts; “green” wind energy that is renewable but can blight scenic landscapes and kill birds and bats in large numbers if not sited properly.

Humanity’s inability to tame the “population monster” – or at least our procrastination in doing so – will have massively negative social, cultural, economic and environmental repercussions on a global scale. It will stoke social, ethnic and racial conflicts at all scales, from local to regional, national to international. It will intensify competition for dwindling and depleting renewable and nonrenewable natural resources, such as fisheries, arable soils, timber, oil, minerals, lands and, most importantly, water.

It will fuel internal migration from rural areas into crowded, dense mega-cities already bursting at the seams, and it will precipitate international migration from low-income, rapid population growth countries to higher income countries with stable or shrinking populations. Those prosperous nations that have managed to achieve population stability will see that achievement crushed unless they sharply limit the influx of economic immigrants and those claiming to be refugees, mustering the will to resist international pressure to open their borders to the less fortunate.

It will exacerbate air, water and toxic pollution, and it will destroy wildlife habitat and drive many species of plants and animals extinct. Human overpopulation and overconsumption have pushed the Earth into its sixth major extinction event since multicellular life emerged on the planet. Biodiversity will plummet, as one gluttonous species, Homo sapiens, co-opts the vital resources needed to support tens of thousands of other species.

It will accelerate man-made climate change by increasing the number of energy consumers and carbon and methane emitters; this threatens to bring not only sea level rise and droughts, but water shortages, negatively impacting agriculture, settlements and ecosystems. As well, expect more deadly storms that wreak havoc, flatten and flood homes, and kill thousands.

Migrants march en masse into Slovenia, 2015: a sight that will become
ever more common as this crowded century proceeds, unless rapid population growth in some countries is tamed and borders in other countries are enforced.

It is nothing short of disheartening that half a century after awareness began to be raised of the insuperable problems posed by rapid, unsustainable human population growth that it is even necessary to harp on this issue at all. By now, humankind should have already halted population growth and moved onto other pressing sustainability challenges. Clearly, we have underestimated the enormity of the population challenge. The primordial urge to leave offspring and to increase the numbers of one’s own kind and kin is just too deeply rooted in our genes and/or cultures.

But reality is reality: on a finite planet, population growth will stop, one way or the other. The only question is how: Will it stop because enlightened human beings rationally and humanely lower aggregate birth rates or because nature – utterly indifferent to our values, wellbeing or even survival – raises the death rate?

The answer to that burning question is still unknown, but it makes all the difference in the world as to what type of Earth we are bequeathing to our descendants and the rest of creation.

UPDATE:  The PRB’s Population Data Sheet for 2016 has now been posted and is available online at: http://www.prb.org/pdf16/prb-wpds2016-web-2016.pdf.

It reveals that world population grew by 90 million over the last year, even higher than the 89 million estimated for 2015. Thus, the trend towards higher and higher annual population growth increments called out and lamented in this blog post continues. Far from having been tamed, the “population monster” continues rampaging like a juggernaut.

when has life on earth not been incredibly brutal, is what it is, incredibly brutal and beautiful and wonderful and when I look at my daughter I think if she is not a word of the Goddess then the Goddess never spoke as per Cormac McCarthy. She has taught me so much about love, I am so grateful to my daughter and earth.

Leon Kolankiewicz has an agenda. he is a routine contributor to CIS. That site has as agenda to end immigration to the US unless the immigrant is from a highly developed European country
I would not take his article on face value. The data is most likely skewed and highly hand picked to prove his point

I thought wtf, but then I checked his background and noticed he was an “ordinary Pole” so my world view was in order again.

Good information on this issue. It woukd be helpful to understand why the birthrates are so hgh in African countries. No doubt, the lack of affordable modern birth control is part of the problem. When life expectancy is very low due to disease, famine, war and natural disasters, it may seem natural to have each woman produce 7 or 8 children. But due to intervention by other countries, those problems are being reduced and life expectancy increases. Families can be maintained with fewer births. Is it still a notion that large families are a source of wealth rather than a financial drain on the family? They seem to be choking themselves and increasing strife in regions where so many are competing for few resources. If people need to migrate to other countries to survive, how is that benefitting the family? Seems like we need to understand what is behind the birth rate in those countries. Just guessing it is more involved than just having access to birth control. Maybe not…

“It would be helpful to understand why the birthrates are so high in African countries. No doubt, the lack of affordable modern birth control is part of the problem.”

You posed the question, you answered it.

The truth is that these countries can’t lift themselves and post-WW2 US-imposed decolonization was a mistake.

When we move away from American hegemony into a multi-polar world order with accompanying global institutions, Europeans (which always mean including European Americans and Russians) and Chinese should seriously contemplate a new model of “colonialism light”, which includes physical presence of Europeans and Chinese in Africa and elsewhere, who run large local production facilities (typically plantations) with Africans running lower staff functions.

And no, this doesn’t mean returning to Africa by means of militarily conquest, but instead via a model of “voluntarily adoption” of an African country by a country from Eurasia. If an African country wants to become eligible for “adoption”, it automatically means acceptance of a birth control program. Africans are unable to impose one on themselves, unlike the far more disciplined Chinese.

If not: you can rot away all by yourself.

A man went to see a psychiatrist.  The psychiatrist asked, “What’s the problem?”  The man answered, “Well, it’s not me, doctor, it’s my brother.  You see, he thinks he is a chicken.”  The psychiatrist responded, “Have you told your brother he is wrong, and that he is not a chicken?”  The man answered, “Well, I would, but I need the eggs.”

Alas, this is precisely the problem with our religious and political systems.  They are based on utterly, verifiably false ideas and myths, but the religious and political leaders dare not reveal this fact to the masses.  Because they need the eggs.

This is not to say that there is no God, just that God is not like the anthropomorphic one portrayed in the myths.  There was no “paradise” with a “tree of forbidden fruit,” a talking snake, etc., etc.  Nor was there any “exodus” of Israelites from Egypt.  Quite the reverse:  imperial Egypt left Canaan, and the newly freed locals transmogrified that release from tyranny into a fantasy of having been “chosen” by a god they had invented.

Similarly with Christianity:  there was no resurrection from the dead, nor any spectacular bunch of experiences, miracles and divinely directed sea adventure by a man named Paul, let alone any divine “Word of God” enshrined as Holy Writ.

The madcap, incoherent and turgid fantasies scibbled down as the Quran are even far worse.  But the “faithful” who believe in these various myths and contort themselves into verbal pretzels trying to make sense of them, must not be told the truth.  Because the respective leaders (priests, ministers, rabbis and various imams, mullahs, and other blindered types) need the eggs.

But if this is true of the religious types, it is far more true of the political leaders who rely on these deeply ingrained beliefs in the masses.  One must never, ever tell them that their cretinous myths are false.  They need no proof;  they “believe” their absurdities which tell them to murder not only other people, but the earth itself.

Nor is such neurosis limited to the low IQs.  In America and Europe, many university presidents and high government officials and their moneyed bribers subscribe to vulgarized, de-religified forms of these idiocies.  This is easily seen in the widespread White genosuicidism found throughout the academic and ruling circles of the West, circles which need the eggs to maintain their lifestyles.

Given the population’s compulsive need to hold such manifest fictions, there is really no possibility of averting the destruction of the biosphere through fecal overload.  The only hope is that Gaia will take measures to vastly reduce the number of homines sapientes before it is too late.

“This is not to say that there is no God, just that God is not like the anthropomorphic one portrayed in the myths.”

I disagree with that. If you want to see God, just look in the mirror (preferably not in the morning and males need not apply). The universe is God and we are the universe, a God in statu nascendi, a slowly awakening God. And when God is totally awakened and tired he will decide to go to sleep again. Repeat cycle.

“and the newly freed locals transmogrified that release from tyranny into a fantasy of having been “chosen” by a god they had invented.”

The 20th century was basically little more that coming to terms with this millennia old archaic dream of a small “elite” ruling it all (“NWO/Judaic State”). And they attempted to use America and the USSR to achieve that goal, at the cost of Europe. Meanwhile the end of that dream is in sight. The rise of Sunni fundamentalism in the ME will cause Israel to be abandoned and moved to Upstate New York, where at the same time a US version of the Pale of Settlement will be implemented between the Rockies and Appalachians (“Amerika”), the new home of the European-Americans (“Amerikaner”).

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_of_Settlement

Furthermore, the end of the American hegemonic era will cause the lifting of the taboo of openly discussing WW1 / WW2 / holocaust / 9-11 / communism / multiculturalism / Frankfurter Schule / political correctness, all in all with pretty negative consequences for the global stature of our trouble makers.

    Example discussion to be expected:

    http://peakoil.com/consumption/oil-prices-crash-as-traders-brace-for-end-of-peak-demand-season/comment-page-1#comments

“The madcap, incoherent and turgid fantasies scibbled down as the Quran are even far worse”

I consider Islam as a convenient tool to keep IQ80 muppets dumb and harmless and tease the western left with their disastrous choice of a partner to “integrate” with as it is not possible to find a group on this planet more archaic right-wing extremist than Muslims. I think the left will be defeated and that the 21st century will be much more like the 19th than the 20th century.

“Similarly with Christianity: there was no resurrection from the dead, nor any spectacular bunch of experiences, miracles and divinely directed sea adventure by a man named Paul, let alone any divine “Word of God” enshrined as Holy Writ.”

In Europe Christianity is as good as dead. Only Africans, South-Americans and Chinese (who love anything as long as it is western so they will copy it) are embracing it. Perhaps we can move the Vatican to Nigeria.

In Europe everything is pointing towards “the right” and the will to defend itself against becoming overrun and crawl from under the shadow of Washington. Russia is ahead of the rest of Europe in this respect.

The real challenges of the 21st century will be:

    – hopefully peaceful end of the American Era of hegemony, no guarantees
    – formation Paris-Berlin-Moscow confederation
    – containment of China by this confederation
    – phasing out of fossil fuel
    – containment of exploding birth rate in the third world
    – implementation of rigorous environmental measures as well as conservation of nature and species. The increase of atmospheric CO2 could have unexpected beneficial side effects:

All in all, that is a lot of challenges.

Millions of people starve to death because they are not allowed to migrate and live. They die because people do not want their standard of living to go down. People need to acknowledge this and realize it is same as watching them being sent to a concentration camp. To me, ignoring this and making a big deal about animal or few death is silly.
    real7777.wordpress.com
G7 need to get realistic and let deformed/handicapped/drug babies die even after birth. This would also include brain damaged babies from Zika. Extra money spend for each of these babies could save THOUSAND normal babies.
Solution to most of the problems in world is birth control but greedy globalist and religion does not want reduced money base. Sumer cradle of civilization was origin of all major religions and empire structures. Greedy elite made up stories/lies to unite and take advantage of people. Drought made them spread around the world(Babylon.) Became King = khan= Kanger etc. and now globalist. Conned-sumer is 65% of economy.

  9. Davy on Tue, 6th Sep 2016 7:01 am

I once believed in globalism. In the 80’s it offered promise. At that time I left my parochial Midwest that at the time I despised for its backwardness. I moved to Europe learned some German and Spanish. I worked there and traveled over much of it. I was fresh out of college and I was exposed to peak oil and climate change. I felt at the time development was the answer to these problems and population growth which was then appearing more ominous. I am an egalitarian. I am not one because of correctness. This is the position I have from experience and study. I do not see racism as legitimate. I am still open to it academically meaning “prove it”.

I believe we are all created equal and that is where it ends. People have talents and cultures have talents. It takes a village to raise a child and care for the weak. The weak become strong and the strong become weak. Survival of the fittest is important and we as a moderns have discarded that reality because of affluence. We have also been deceived by what is fittest because of affluence. White racist think white culture is superior. I would argue it depends. Survival and fittest do not have to go together. Survival and smart does not have to go together. I now see where human smart has got us and that is into and extinction event smart humans created. Fit does not mean survival. Fossil fuels have made us fit in many ways but have now put us into overshoot with consumption and population. So survival of the fittest and superior races for what? Extinction is what we are facing today. I see that as the highest of failures that must be places at the feet of white civilization.

This gets me to the topic of immigration. I am pro-immigration in a perfect world. I am egalitarian and believe a village is needed to be human and grow. Our natural history is tribal and small bands of similar peoples. Only recently to the detriment of the earth ecosystem we started civilizations. We are not in a perfect world. We are in a world that is seeing an epoch turn. This turning is a failing ecosystem. We are turning the climate from stable to unstable. We have disrupted most species place in a stable macro ecosystems and not only creating extinction but creating disruptive extinction that can bring the whole network down. In our own subset human ecosystem we are in overshoot at all levels from consumption to population to organization in most locations. I am firmly against immigration and I am married to an Italian with a green card. My stance against immigration is twofold. On one level I see little that can be done with immigration and globalism. If you are going to have globalism you will have to have immigration. I am against it for reasons of sustainability and resilience of locals. If you are in a local with reasonable sustainability the most important thing you can avoid is more people this includes immigrants or migrants of the same nationality. Immigration or internal migration can destroy your local sustainability and put you at risk.

We are likely going to see a bifurcated global system within 10 years from the combined effects of abrupt climate change, peak oil dynamics, and the deflation and destruction of the global economy. Together these will destroy our ability to manufacture goods and grow food and distribute those to all those delocalized locals overly dependent on the global for survival. This means a die off and likely a big one or the begging of a long process of death. We have destroyed our local resilience and sustainability for the efficiency and affluence of globalism. We are now without local abilities to survive. We can get these abilities back but there will not be any getting these back if you are in overshoot with population and consumption. If you are in a high population location you have difficult times ahead. If you are in a high complexity location that depends on a high amount of consumption to maintain complexity you will be at risk. If you are in both you are in the worst of all worlds. The best locations are low population and low complexity and not in the cross hairs of the worst of climate change. Today these locations are the locations that are boring and unattractive. In a world of personal choice and discretionary fancy these locations offer lower affluence. There are not many left in this overpopulated world. Immigration is no longer supportable in a world of overshoot of population and consumption. In a world that is increasingly unstable politically and socially immigration does not have a place. Immigrants are not bad it is the process and the situation that argues against having them.

Dts, You don’t understand the predicament we are in and the brutality we will live through as a consequence. Life on Earth has always been incredibly brutal for some, but your daughter’s generation will face a scale and intensity of brutality never experienced before. If you think a little about what it will take to stop population growth and you study some history you will realize that we will have to live through something several times worse than all the atrocities and calamities we’ve faced in the past for the rest of our lives before things get better. Enjoy your daughter all you can; she will pay a very heavy price for your joy. Having a child in today’s world is an act of ignorance or an act of selfishness; I guess which one would depend on your level of misunderstanding.

I chose not to have a child until I had a career in which I could provide well for her and she is thriving. In todays world I probably would not have made such a choice because I do believe that transition is near. My parents had 4 kids and I am the only one of us who chose to have any kids so I think my generation of my family is making strong choice reference population growth. I believe instead of war the usa should fund sterilization and give 10000 to every person who so choices permanent sterilization throughout the world. Both here and throughout the world.

Kids will be needed for those who survive the die off. Those without kids should hope they are adopted by children who survive. The young mature in strength as the old become frail and die. A die off is around the corner that will correct population levels. Modern human efforts at population control have never worked. Fossil fuels created a dynamics of survival and growth that have trumped any effort that could have ever been made by humans to manage population growth. All our modern birth control allowed for is for us to dive deeper into modernism which has been the destruction of the basic family and community structure in the name of progress.

When any one kind of species of plant or animal gets out of hand and proliferates to extremes, something else identifies that species as a very large and good food source that is relatively “unprotected”. Guess what happens next. Predation on a massive scale ensues and the former over population species dwindles to insignificance or goes extinct. The geologic record is full of examples. The crash is so fast (usually) that it is assumed that something extra terrestrial caused it. Example. The Devonian Age Woodford Shale covers most of North America. It is a marine shale deposited in relatively shallow water over an erosional unconformity. Fossils in this formation are few and far between and are always depauperate. Tree trunks are common. Fossil plant spores are very common. The chemical environment is reducing. I envision a huge mat of floating plants with long roots dragging the sea floor and extending miles out to sea over deeper water. The floating plants prevent sunlight from getting into the water or substrate. They also reduce wave action and thus oxygen from getting into the water. As individual plants die and fall to the bottom, they decay in a reducing environment thus creating this highly carbonaceous shale. All this creates certain environmental situations conducive to their (the floating plants) proliferation. What ended the Woodford Shale is unknown, however close examination of the overlying Mississippian formations indicates that there is no transition zone and the water was basically still shallow but changed to an oxidizing chemical environment immediately. Overlying shallow water deposition consists of clean limes with normal fossil content for a marine oxidizing environment. Something wiped out the floating plant species. This allowed oxidizing conditions to return and life to return to normal. The contact between the overlying Mississippian Limes and the underlying Woodford Shale is KNIFE EDGE. I suspect a bacteria identified a huge unprotected food source and took advantage of it and killed it all before it could mutate and protect itself. There are other examples of this kind of thing happening. I suspect we may be next on the list. OOOOPS!

Africa, and it’s negro’s, will be the downfall of this planet. No amount of education, birth control, or economic success will ever stop them from doing what they do best, which is breed uncontrollably.

While the rest of the world was evolving to be smarter and thus increase their rate of survival, Africans just played the numbers game. Have lots of kids, some will survive.

The average IQ in Africa is 75. You can’t fix stupid.

If it was only “culture” or even religion, it might be possible to turn the tide. Unfortunately, that’s only part of the problem. The most intractable problem is… we’re genetically hard-wired to reproduce. And now there are no natural predators left who can curb our numbers, while technology allows 99%+ of all children to live to adulthood –something unthinkable even 100 years ago.

    “negro’s”? ok Daddy-O. You’re one groovy swinging cat…man.

Wow those Africans sound like the bottom 1/2 of merica including tens of millions of white trash. Most Africans do not have a bunch of institution available to them like rich countries, so what is the reason for so many Americans being total fucking retards? What’s the excuse? I mean America has many of the best universities in the world, yet a huge segment of semi literal and semi numerate mouth breathers. If they are that bad what would they be like without the free basic education and access to health care and drinkable water? How can the richest and most powerful country that ever existed produce so many knuckle draggers? This site (below) says America is tied for 9th in the world for IQ (with Latvia et al). What would it be if you subtracted all the foreign born and raised brainiacs: Doctors, scientists, professors, Silicone Valley, etc?

What would it be if you subtracted all the foreign born and raised illiterate 3rd world morons?

Pointless questions, the point of this article is population growth. Africa is exploding in population. Africans are the least intelligent group of people on the planet (not the foreign, mostly Asian, “Brainiacs” you speak of.) Global IQ is in decline because of their breeding.

    http://uhaweb.hartford.edu/BRBAKER/

More knowledge for you. Asians have the highest IQ, but are not broadly distributed across the mean. This means few retards, but also few geniuses. Europeans are only slightly lower in ave IQ, but they have the highest spread of IQ’s of any racial group. This means more retards, but also more geniuses, which explains why the US has some of the stupidest people as well as some of the smartest. We also have a fairly large black population in comparison to most non-African or Caribbean countries, which drives our average IQ down. Take blacks out of the equation and we go up a few points.

I give that as about much weight as the bible, except it’s not finished and they keep conjuring up new disorders every fucking day. You know they don’t include all the disorders submitted for proposal for every new edition. In a decade you’ll need a hand truck to carry that manual around.

Thank christ the head shrinker bible it wasn’t that fat and they weren’t prescribing the meds with a Pez dispenser when I was a kid. They would have had me doped up at 6 years old and I wouldn’t have been able to become the well adjusted person I am today.

You can downplay it, like all leftists do, because it doesn’t fit your egalitarian world view.

Why are Europeans able to create their civilization and put a man on the moon, where others don’t get any further than a cutting a wooden penis shaft?

    Answer: IQ

According to Charles Murray, if a nation wants to run an industrial society, you need at least an average IQ of 90. Within the Islamic world, only turkey meets that criteria.

Every white child at some point will get an IQ-number associated to it that determines what school level that child will attend.

    Dutch standards:

    70 – 80 LBO –
    80 – 90 LBO
    90 – 100 LBO +
    100 – 110 MBO
    110 – 120 MBO + – HBO
    120 – 130 HBO + / Universitair
    130 – 140 Universitair +(begaafd)
    140 – 150 Universitair ++ (hoogbegaafd)

Upshot: no country is going to waste expensive academic resources on students with an IQ<120.

In the Netherlands there is no school level suitable for the average African.

    Average income per capita:

    USA $57.2k
    Nigeria $2.6k

    Why this difference?

    IQ.

    Another underestimate.

Farming adaptations needed to combat climate change to impact crop yields in 2050

“A summary of the findings show:

Late sowing, or choosing a safer time to plant, did not show much benefit.

Increasing seed density and using more fertilizer results in higher crop yield, with or without climate change.
Changing the length of thermal time required for sorghum to grow results in a reduction in crop yield.

Collecting rainfall to use during a dry spell will only marginally benefit crop yield with or without climate change.

Using sorghum varieties that are more resilient to heat stress during the flowering period proves to have the most potential for greater crop yield with higher temperatures in the future.

Guan says this research confirms what previous studies have concluded. “If farmers don’t do anything about climate change in West Africa, there will be a severe impact — a net loss in crop yield. We have to do something. We also discovered that most of the approaches are not as effective as what we expected.”

Sexual abuse is in the mind of the beholder, it seems to me. Forced rape is not acceptable in most cultures, but age and kind of sexual activity is not regulated in many others. Religion has more to do with the acceptable sexual age than the human psyche.

When people only lived to be in their 20s or 30s, sex began as soon as the equipment was working and it was possible to procreate. Teens were parents and often died before their kids were fully mature.

Today, there is a wide acceptance of early hetero and homosexual activity among the 7+ billion of us apes. We inherited that from out ancestors, whom we can still observe in the wild or zoos. The genes never changed, they are just subjected to mostly Western ideas of right or wrong.

I would not pretend to judge others. At one time rape meant 20 years in jail in the US. THAT is one law that should have stayed on the books. As for the others…

A problem I have is will “smart” be an advantage if there is a collapse? I am not so sure. Our western modern definition of “smart” may just be a big handicap. I will also question “smart”. It was “smart” that got us to this point. It was not “dumb” that got us here. It is going to turn out to be “dumb” if we lose a civilization over trying to be so smart. There is more to life than intelligence levels. If “smart” got us here and “here” is a die off than “smart” is not so smart.

New Study: Climate Change Has Doubled the Number of Category 4 and 5 Storms Striking East and Southeast Asia

“The atmospheric-ocean heat engine. It’s a pretty simple mechanism for pumping up the power of storms. But as simple as it is, the results can be devastating when this engine gets revved up by human-forced climate change, according to a new study released Monday in Nature Geoscience.

    The Heat Engine in Action

As the ocean surface warms, it heats the local atmosphere. This generates an updraft that pushes higher and higher into the air above. Heat also causes water at the ocean surface to evaporate. This evaporated water is borne up on the winds and air currents rising above the heating water. A low-pressure system forms and the water vapor condenses into clouds which ultimately become thunderstorms. The Coriolis effect gives it all a nudge and the storms and clouds start to spin…”

By your logic then the MSM is the most honest and reliable since it is the least obscure. So your Dutch sick o child porn politician and academic died – so what? He was published 1200 times and whether you heard of him or not is not the deciding factor if someone is famous or not. What if you never heard of Elvis, would that mean he is not famous? This is brilliant. Cancer industry frackers AND environmental spokesperson both excuse making and lying about the very same issue. What a happy story – united as one to kill the species off as fast as is humanly possible.

The problem with natural gas: methane emissions

“Last week, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said that oil and gas production in the state emitted the same amount of methane, 110,000 tons, in 2014, representing a one percent increase from the previous year. The Aliso Canyon leak emanated from one source, leading it to be declared a disaster, whereas leaks occurred in countless spots across the shale fields of Pennsylvania, where it was considered business as usual. The effect on the climate was, however, the same.”

“One organization that has been a notoriously enthusiastic supporter of natural gas drilling is the Environmental Defense Fund. In response to the news of the methane emissions increase in Pennsylvania, EDF’s Andrew Williams shamefully and preposterously minimized the problem of methane leaks from oil and gas operations to Public News Service-PA. “Sometimes the fix is as easy as tightening a value that’s maybe a little bit loose or shutting a hatch that’s left open on top of a storage tank,” he said. “The type[sic] of controls that we’re talking about are readily available and are highly cost-effective.”

“The results of a recent right-to-know request of the state’s Department of Environmental Protection revealed that the agency has approved 42 new natural gas power plants since January 2014. Pennsylvanians Against Fracking compiled its own list of power plants mentioned in articles and industry reports. Our list contained 15 plants not on the DEP’s list. That means that even more plants may be on the horizon.”

Davy says: ” I am an egalitarian. I am not one because of correctness. This is the position I have from experience and study. I do not see racism as legitimate. I am still open to it academically meaning “prove it”.”

    There you go:

    http://www.counter-currents.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/BwnCM9OCYAAJfu9-1-e1449202145292.png

Yes you are an egalitarian because of political correctness (and kindness of your Christian heart because you don’t want to hurt somebodies feelings by humiliating him).
Africans, Indians, Chinese, Japanese all consider European civilization superior. Only North-Americans don’t. Why is that?
Because they are colonized by a people who took over America 100 years ago. These very same people you don’t want to talk about.
Americans subsequently let themselves being used to attempt to conquer the world on behalf of those “who can’t be named” and at the same time let themselves being thought by these same people (formalized by the “Frankfurter Schule”, the current ruling mode of official thinking in the kosher run West) that Europeans / European-Americans are a horrible people, wo ad infinitum need to be made feel guilty about their European past of colonialism, slavery, exploitation and what not (fully ignoring the immense civilizational heritage of culture, music, art, architecture, science and technology that in the end also benefitted non-Europeans). And as a consequence there was only one way of correct behavior to repent, namely to make themselves as small as possible and pay every bill presented to them, as well as that they were told to give their territoriy away to third world hordes, sold as “equals”.

The catastropic situation the “white race” is in (the Western part that is) is that they fully internatilized this bullshit.

The truth is that if you embrace this sordid egalitarian intellectual position, you in essence signed the death warrant of your own civilization and handed it over to your enemies, who want to phase you out from history. And en passant destroyed the future of your own children in the process. I have great difficulty in seeing anything admirable in this position. And neither do you, but in order to justify this position, you use the peak oil / climate change theories to justify this capitulation, because, you see, in the end we all are going to die, including our kosher tormentors, so it doesn’t matter who rules who.

Since the early seventees I have internalized the message of the Club of Rome, until today. The environment is indeed something that human civilization can destroy. Exponential growth is impossible. Resources are finite. Overpopulation is real and we are in “overshoot”. It is very well possible that economic endeavours have repercussion for the climate, good or bad or both. Species are disappearing. No discussion about that.

Whose fault is this? Everybodies, meaning nobodies. Europeans or white people have created a civilization, simply because they could. They never did that with the intention to destroy our habitat. The civilization they created was so attractive that the entire world wanted it too. And only since a few decades it begins to dawn on several prescient people, almost invariably white people btw, that we have a problem that needs to be solved and that there are “Limits to Growth”.

    And now what?

The real doomers amongst us claim: “there is no way out, we are all doomed, better start a vegetable garden and wait for the end”.

There is another position that says: “perhaps we are doomed, perhaps not. Let’s try to save as much as possible from civilization, while at the same time addressing the most pressing issues: reduce CO2 output and develope non-fossil fuel energy sources, preach energy saving, reduce or eliminate car usage, advocate birth control”.

The real doomers will sneer this attempt as “smoking a pipe with hopium”.

Back to the race topic and the connection to the problem cluster described above. Are we better off if the white race disappears by allowing ourselves to become overrun? Is the planet as a whole better off? Let’s assume that we will become overrun and that predictably our instutions will brake down under the weight of affirmative action and subsequent incompetence. The people who are entering the West today in great numbers are unable and unwilling to carry on European civilization; they just want to enjoy the fruits and that’s it. And the Muslims are merely waiting until they can implement their brutal Caliphate. And once the West is overtaken by the third world, both the darkened West as well as the third world will completely collapse and cleansed from any form of higher civilization. Classical Greece, Roman era, Renaissance, European modernity, science and technology, all for nothing, it will all simply disappear because of that “anti-racist” self-defeating attitude.

The doomers say: “yes we would be better off, since humans are vile creatures that deserve to vanish from this prescious planet”.
I say: “well then, why don’t you give a good example and clean yourself up”.

That of course is not going to happen. The nihilistic doomers prefer to create for themselves a ringside seat, anticipating in glee how it all will go under. The Greatest Show on Earth. Pass the beer and popcorn! Yuck.

The counter position I promote is of course that of an “life affirmative arrogant Germanic civilization builder”.

We have a problem. Problems are challenges and challenges are interesting. And the last people we can use for this upcoming problem solving operation are third worlders. Go back to your ancestral homelands and wait for the crumbs to fall from the European dinner table. Or pray for the moment we overcome our reluctance and with a deep sigh saddle ourselves again with the “White Man’s Burden” and colonize the joint again, this time with the Chinese:

  49. Davy on Wed, 7th Sep 2016 4:34 am

No, Clog, I am egalitarian because I am open minded to what civilization is. White European civilization is not the definition of human civilization. It is just one of the components. I am egalitarian because I see more to life than European values. What we are seeing is the destruction of the earth because of European civilization that has evolved into globalism. I know I skipped the American part but America is an evolved Europe. In many ways a devolved Europe. We have seen the evolution of Europe into a North America reality and finally into the Global. The destruction is complete. The world could not handle European and American levels of consumption and exploitation very long. Now that this European phenomenon is going global we are quickly destroying the world with both population and consumption. Clog, you want to believe it is not Europe doing this destruction which is part true. This is now a global thing. Europe anymore is a backwater and “has been”. It is a decadent society with socialistic tendencies without the ability to pay for it.

Clog, you have made racism and white culture a focus of discussion on this board. I am not really interested in this. I am past this and looking into the jaws of doom with an eye to how we can prepare for that danger mentally and physically. Racism is still an important discussion but it will not make much of a difference before long. Barriers will be breached quickly as global civilization is destroyed. Racism is only a potent force because the current racist civilization has been a force for several centuries. I see this ending and a new Dark Age beginning. Racism will be chewed up and spit out when the social fabric tears apart in this new Dark Age. Racism will never go away but it will be equalized by poverty and death. Without your structures of civilization there will be little racism to support. You are a dead man walking because the burden of maintaining white civilization is so great with so many of color being born daily. A culture that consumes so much cannot last in a world of collapsing consumption. This is why you are so vocal now. You are desperate on all fronts. Riches turn to dust quickly. You best get prepared.

That is true, that’s why globalism needs to be reverted, the world divided into segregated civilizations (a la Samuel Huntington) and non-Europeans encouraged to pick up their own heritage again because European life and standards are not going to happen to them.

And we white people need to become more modest as well, c.q. will be forced by nature to do so.

“Europe anymore is a backwater and “has been”. It is a decadent society with socialistic tendencies without the ability to pay for it.”

Dream on, we’re coming back big time. The Weimar republic was decadent to the core but ten years later they had overrun entire Europe. Decadence can be overturned by a new regime and new values. Our finances and economy are in far better shape than that of the US, mainly because we don’t run an empire and corresponding military with ever diminishing returns and we have less non-whites on our soil. A little bit of socialism is not that bad.

“Barriers will be breached quickly as global civilization is destroyed.”

Exactly the opposite will occur. Barriers will be erected everywhere because globalism will be destroyed. Trump’s wall, Israel’s wall and all these new fences in Europe are proof of that.

“Racism is only a potent force because the current racist civilization has been a force for several centuries. I see this ending and a new Dark Age beginning. Racism will be chewed up and spit out when the social fabric tears apart in this new Dark Age… Racism will never go away but it will be equalized by poverty and death”

Racism/tribalism (=preference for your own kind) is as old as humanity itself and this will not change. Tribal differences could be papered over indeed in an era of material progress like the 20th century, with constructs like the USSR, USA, Iraq, Syria, Yugoslavia etc. But as soon as abundance disappears people will retreat to the relative safety own their tribe and tribal competition will increase, not “chewed up and spit out”. What is currently happening in the US election 2016 is exactly that, not openly but underneath.

“You are a dead man walking because the burden of maintaining white civilization is so great with so many of color being born daily.”

We could indeed be a dead man walking, unless we liberate ourselves from the kosher-run anti-white western empire and move over to Russia and even China, who both will never demand from us that we commit racial suicide. And exactly that liberation is next on the program on a suitable moment.
