It’s time to take this climate change thing seriously, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says in so many words.
The federal agency posted a story on its online site this past week saying that scientists have found that a heated Earth could result in a number of human afflictions – in 30 years.
Among them:
– Harmful bacteria in the ocean and seafood, which could result in gastroenteritis and infectious diseases;
– Algae bloom outbreaks in Washington State’s Puget Sound, which could result in vomiting, muscle paralysis or even death;
– Increased rainfall and outdated sewer systems in the Great Lakes region could result in disease-causing bacteria, viruses and protozoa in drinking water and on beaches.
Sounds pretty bad.
But if NOAA’s intention was to give us a scare about what the future might hold, it didn’t quite hit home. I mean, increased rainfall in over Michigan?
What happened to the standard disastrous consequences of climate change? Melting ice caps, rising seas, disappearing land areas and a steady pounding by more intense hurricanes?

Global warming is real, and it’s happening now, and everywhere.
