More faults may be regarded as active under the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture, a survey by its operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., showed Thursday.
Of the plant’s seven nuclear reactors, the faults below the Nos. 3, 5, 6 and 7 reactors are now suspected of having moved about 200,000 to 400,000 years ago, according to TEPCO.
Traces of fault activity 200,000 years ago or later have already been found under the Nos. 1 and 2 reactors.

Ah, this one is upwind of Tokyo and would spread radiation across the main part of Japan if it goes. I wonder how many yen one of those empty Chinese cities would cost? They may need all of them. But nuclear is safe, right?

The cost of dismantling and “cleaning up” the disaster at Fukishima should make us all stop and think about the never ending cost of nuclear energy. When you add in the cost of storage of nuclear waste FOREVER the cost is too high.
The sooner Japan transitions to safe, clean alternative energy sources the better off they will be.
Wind, solar, wave energy and geothermal are all safer, cleaner and cheaper options for generating electricity.
