Giraffes are now at risk of extinction as their numbers reportedly dropped by 40 percent in the last 30 years. With all the attention on global warming and climate change, many were surprised to find giraffes slowly disappearing. Scientists believe that if their population declines further, giraffes will be vulnerable to extinction.
Known for their unusually long neck, giraffes are the tallest land animal in the world, and they are mostly housed in zoos. This is why it came as a surprise that they are included in the list of animals that can go extinct in the next few decades.
According to a list published by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature or IUCN, the giraffe is one of the animals on the list that was most surprising. Others included are certain plant species such as four different species of mango from Southeast Asia. Furthermore, based on the findings of the IUCN and Birdlife International, about 11 percent of the 742 new species of birds are also in danger.
A report from CBS News indicated that the rapid decline in giraffe population can be attributed to many human activities, the worst being illegal hunting. With the black market still in demand for animal coats which would be sold illegally to different manufacturers of bags and other items, there is still widespread poaching of different animals all over the world.
Another reason for the giraffes’ decline in number as explained by the Atlantic is the significant loss of habitat which can be attributed to both man-made and natural causes. With the increase in temperatures, urbanization, loss of surface water, and many more, it is to no surprise that the population of several animals is on a decline.

Giraffes will become extinct. It is a matter of when, not if, so let’s stop wasting Time on this. Western MSM is getting truly pathetic. It is Time to face the hard truths and stop wasting Time with stupid, inevitable shit. The extinction of giraffes is completely irrelevant and totally inevitable. We have bigger fish to fry.

Yeah, haha, lots of other animals too can become extinct including us. But guess they are making joke to single out the poor Giraffes.

The world was a very divers, exciting and interesting place when I grew up in the 40s, 50s and 60s. There were still places not on the map and jungles were still wild. Then we killed all of that and replaced it with planned obsolescence. Now our own extinction is staring us in the face, Blow-back is a bitch!

Well, let’s see…when I was born around 1960 the planet had about 3 billion people…now over 7 billion and counting upwards 80 million per year. And we are wondering other mammals are becoming extinct? HELLOooooo

Wait wait wait.
We can solve this together.
We can name a car after the Giraffe.
Check Out The Nissan Giraffe.
A sporty crossover with a great custom paint color.
Good gas mileage.
Thanks to the new Nissan Giraffe, we will never worry
about running out of giraffes anymore.

Tragedy: What are Trumps brats going to do since they love participating in canned African safari hunts. This far they can claim lions, rhino, and even a hippo., but a giraffe remains on their bucket list.
Good God, if we are unable to save the world’s megafauna, nothing will survive.
And a huge thanks to Trump and his Republican pals for their herculean efforts to repeal the Endangered Species Act and sell-off America’s parks to the highest bidder.

“Scientists have called for humans to change course or risk mass animal extinction.”
Why does the media continue to perpetuate the myth that there is still time? News flash….we are RIGHT NOW in the midst of a mass extinction emergency.

It is amazing that people get so hot and bothered about extinction. We are the problem because of our consumption and population levels. Whining about who is to blame is being “snowflaky”. Blaming Trump and the fossil fuel industry is stupidity. We are the problem and until we end modern society and reduce our population levels to bellow 1BIL, whiners are pissing in the wind. Even reducing population doesn’t matter in regards to modern civilization. Maybe a new human will develop if humans make it through the bottleneck and in that respect it may matter. We can create a seed bank for the future but we will not save ourselves.
I hate the idea of nature being destroyed. I live with nature. Many of you live in your nice comfy lives that is divorced from nature. I am out in the elements all day and do things to enhance nature. I don’t sit in my comfy life destroying it then talk about how bad extinction is because of someone else. I admit I am the problem even with me trying to help nature out and living as close to nature as I can. I am the problem. Whiners repeat this 5 times “I am the problem”. People want to complain about extinction and blame everyone else. This is text book delusion.
If they want to do something about extinction kill yourself now. End it right now and that is a first step to changing something that can’t be change without the end of modern humans. It is likely beyond saving now even if humans disappeared completely. We wrecked a complex ecosystem that grew up post the last glaciation even before we took it to the point of wrecking the climate recently. Now that we have put in motion climate feed backs it is likely the case we are finished as in a closed book. Techno optimist and animal lovers alike cannot process this thought. They think there must be a way but there is none. They think there is a get out of jail card if only people would listen.
We will pay the price like other species likely by the end of the century. This may happen sooner. I don’t know but it does not look good. The best thing animal huggers can do is get honest and look in the mirror. Offing trump is not going to change things. Making Amy Goodman president is not going to matter one bit. Righting social injustice is not going to matter. Going green and carbon free is a joke on the level of mattering. We are done folks so the best you can do is embrace the truth with honesty. Grow up and be adults and face death. Yes, death, mother fucker what part of that can’t you understand?
That said I am living my life as a man devoted to “Nature” because it feels right. I am practicing relative sacrifice for my fellow man because it feels right. I am doing this trying not to point fingers. Being human is a dance between honesty and delusion. Hypocrisy is our greatest delusion. Humility is our greatest honesty. I am trying not to pointing finger because that is delusional. I can and will say I feel people like Trump are disgusting on many levels. The global 1% (which everyone on this board is part of) is disgusting because we live a lie with billions living with so little. I live better than I should and I feel guilt for that to a point but does it matter? Hell no. So much about modern life is not right in my book but I am not pointing fingers and whining like it matters. Go ahead and lynch these people if it makes you feel better. Who am I to say no but I will laugh at you if you say it matters.

If they want to do something about extinction kill yourself now.
Killing lots of other people would be more effective. The mass murderers of history ought to be worshipped by animal lovers everywhere.
The global 1% (which everyone on this board is part of)…
Not sure if everyone on this board is part of the global 1%. You might need to earn more than you think to be one of the lucky ones. Find out if you make it here:

@ Davy
Why do you assume everyone but you on this forum is divorced from nature and can only complain about the mass extinction crises.
I can’t speak for others, but since retirement I have dedicated my financial resources (and I drive a 1992 station wagon and live in a small ranch home) to buying and preserving habitat in perpetuity. I focus my efforts in Colombia due to Colombia containing more biodiversity than any other country. For example, I provided half of the funding to buy feeding and nesting habitat for the last colony of Yellow-Eared parrots. With assistance from the American Bird Conservancy and the Netherlands, in excess of 10,000 hectares of Cloud rainforest (purchased for only $200.000) was saved, and the population has recovered from 81 to now around 500. I am now working on a similar project in the Guaviare Department. This far, 3.862 hectares have been acquired and conserved.

The fact that there has been a blip of humanity on Earth does not mean Nature should now discontinue its long-honored provision of mass extinctions. If humanity is the proximate cause the present wave of extinction activity, then it is playing a part in Nature’s plan. I have to make the solid inference that Nature will not change its tendencies to appease human sensibilities, whether they be liberal, conservative, religious, or scientific.

Derhundistlos, Davy ASSumes a lot. I may be living in the city now, but I am invested in a farm in the wilds of the Ps. (Cobras, boas, monkeys, etc.) I have been there often, and, plan to be living there by next summer. Building a half mile access road into it has been more challenging than we thought.
I have always lived in the countryside (not suburbs) except for the last 11 years when I lived in Philly and now Makati. The countryside is the best place to live, bar none. I am tired of city life and its noise and pollution. Good luck with your conservation efforts.

Giraffes contribute absolutely nothing to the economy. They aren’t cute and cuddly looking, and they aren’t easily domesticated. Besides, with modern technology we can create virtual giraffes.
Who needs the real thing? Nature is overrated, and has no place in modern industrial society. So long giraffes. Next.

Der Hund there are not too many farmers that practice a spirituality of naturalism that are on this forum. Not many have the balls to say who they are or where they live. Most are cowards in that respect instead they choose anonymity to their whining. People that remain anonymous do that because they are afraid of being exposed to criticism for their criticism. Easy to bitch and point fingers from behind a curtain.
Der Hund, great effort and I hope the best for you and your effort.

Makati you are a fake. You are never on your fantasy farm. You yourself said there is no internet at the fantasy farm. If you were on this fantasy farm you would go for periods without postings and that has not happened since you went to the States. Before that I cannot remember when your last quiet spell was. The reason you didn’t post in the States is you are irrationally afraid of being picked up as a terrorist. Instead you should have been picked up and taken to the shrink. You are a joke and live a lie. A farmer lives and works on his farm. You are at your cheap Makati high-rise most of the time being a retiree laying on your nuts around the pool drinking San Miguel. What a waste of space.
