November is here, which means winter is coming, and so is our demise. Why are we surprised when natural disasters occur? The Earth is simply trying to fight back against the virus we call “humanity.”
The overpopulation of the world and carelessness of its inhabitants have caused environmental issues that can’t be ignored. While there is plenty of land to go around for everyone in the world, the human race, according to youthconect.in, is using 50 percent more than the earth’s available resources.
The main problem is that people just don’t care or don’t believe that overusing resources is possible. Even I, a self-declared environmentalist, do not always have time to recycle because I’m too focused on school and the upcoming election. Yet more people are killed annually by air pollution than are killed by automobile accidents. While 75 percent of Americans have participated in recycling at least once every year, 25 percent of Americans don’t recycle at all. Conservatives complain about immigrants “coming into America and stealing our jobs.” Little do they know, if everyone recycled, almost two million American jobs would be created.
As of October 2016, 58 percent of the world’s population of various birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and mammals have declined since 1970. In attempt to save certain animals and cut back on industrialized foods, there’s been an increase in people who choose vegan and vegetarian diets in America. Vegans and vegetarians are often shamed for their dietary choices though, despite the fact that their choices significantly help the planet. According to The Guardian, omnivorous diets require excessive amounts of water because of the amount of water needed to produce meat, and cause deforestation of land to build factories and farms for mass production of livestock. People are going hungry all over the world, yet America alone throws away $165 million worth of food every year. More factories are clearly not needed to make food that’s just going to be thrown out anyway.
It makes me lose my faith in humanity when Shailene Woodley is getting arrested for protesting a harmful pipeline while the rest of America is complaining about the slight increase in gas prices from 2015-2016. Trust me, when we’re all scavenging for clean water, the price of gas will be the least of our problems.
Everyone needs to stop putting off the war that matters: the war between us and everything we’re doing to destroy the environment. The earth needs more attention than ever before. The fact that bees have been put on the endangered species list shows us how careful we need to be. The great barrier reef is dying because of the ocean overheating.
Much like in the beloved series “Game of Thrones,” people are ignoring the most important battle: climate change. We are, without a doubt, focusing too much on political issues. I promise that after we save the earth, the elephant and the donkey will still be around to duke it out. This is not the case, however, if elephants are extinct by then.
The majority of the human race is selfish and thoughtless and if we just stand by and watch the world around us crumble, we deserve what’s coming to us. If we don’t moderate our harmful practices, there won’t be anymore “us” to write about. People need to stop focusing on things that don’t matter like sports and celebrities and focus instead on fixing our global home. The human race needs to team up and we need to do it now.

So little activity here today… Are you all voting and/or following the dual clown circus show?

Great article. Hard to get people to focus on anything but the bread and circus nowadays. Same as it ever was…

The Rs don’t care about climate change and the Ds only pretend to care.
Whats a voter to do?
Cheers!

“The majority of the human race is selfish and thoughtless and if we just stand by and watch the world around us crumble, we deserve what’s coming to us.”
deserve? I don’t think that’s the term I would use in the big picture. I too see the majority of the human race as selfish and thoughtless. These are evolved reward seeking (dopamine) survival traits. That’s why we dominate the planet. Sadly these reward seeking (dopamine) survival traits have no shut off switch and thus will lead to self extinction. That being said there are plenty out there that, in a just world, would get what they deserve. No such thing as a just world. We can no more blame the humans (big picture) than blame a cancer for eating grandma to death. That cancer is simply following its biological programming to infect and consume as much healthy tissue as it can………once grandma has passed, so too will the cancer – self extinction. I give the 2 legged cancer less than a century until self extinction.

“The Earth is simply trying to fight back against the virus we call “humanity.” Lots of valid analogies that could be used to describe the often self-destructive human nature.
But Mother Earth is upset with us? LOL. She has driven more species to extinction then exist on the planet today. She’s raised and lowered sea level many hundreds of feet…not meters. She’s leaked millions of times more oil then BP did in the GOM. She’s melted the Arctic sea ice and every glacier on the planet dozens of times. Etc,etc, etc.
Take a shot at mankind…that’s OK, we deserve it. But to use a mental image of Mother sheding a tear like the indian in that anti-pollution TV add is just silly. Perhaps they should take a Geology 101 course. LOL.

Apeman, (isn’t that what someone on this site has dubbed you)? I have no problem with that – my son is a primatologist and, in all modesty, I made some contributions to his doctoral thesis.
On to your comment: I find much to agree with there eg “selfish and thoughtless”, yes, but “deserving?” Hmmm.
“No such thing as a just world?” Definitely true! Otherwise we would have glimpsed some indications of same by now, wouldn’t we?
As for your conclusion, I also tend to agree but prefer not to put any timeline on it.
Apneaman on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 3:15 pm
J-Gav, a PHd primatologist eh. That is quite an accomplishment. Unlike 3/4 of college degrees these days that one requires both high intelligence and a serious commitment to hard work and is truly useful. You must be very proud.
I get that you and others don’t wish to partake in timeline predictions or even talk about what the humans are doing. It can lead to a social and possible career/job death and scare the hell out of the gentler souls. The internet is about the only place I have heard of anyone talking about human extinction within a few generations. With multiple predicament converging and the world run by elites who will give nothing up (default), what can anyone do? I think ignorance is overrated and more people know the shit will hit than are leading on. They’re probably thinking “what can I do?” No worries. Plan B is highly touted and ready to roll according to the technopriests………We’re going to Mars.

Exactly, rock, the ‘earth’ itself is far more negligent and careless when it comes to transporting, handling, and extracting oil, than BP, and your beloved Exxon-mobil ever could be.
What do you suggest we do about this ‘rockman’? Wait, I know, lets charge the EARTH for criminal negligence and leave the saintly, hard-workn folk at Exxon, BP and Chevron alone. Why spend all that time, energy, and effort, suing those good folk, and bad-mouthing them, when we should be litigating and protesting against the real criminal here (according you anyhow),
The Earth Itself-case closed.

The planet has no sentience. Therefore, there is no thought or feeling involved, just ‘natural’ laws. Man supposedly has sentience, but he is using it to commit species suicide. Our time upon the stage is about over.
Time line? I have no dog ($) in this fight so I would give humanity no more than another generation (20 years) until we drop under 1 billion and maybe another 20 until we cease to exist as a species. Certainly 2200 will see us gone.
How do I know? If you follow Ap’s references, and look around, you too would put it in most people’s lifetimes today. We have reached the hockey-stick part of most charts indicating our demise.
When I was a teen, there were still uncharted parts of the globe. Now those same parts are overpopulated and drying up. California is turning to desert along with a lot of other food growing areas of the world. The ‘sugar’ in the petri dish is about gone. Soylent Green anyone?

@mak: We here in Denmark are also forced to connect to the electricity. Or rather the electricity company is forced by law to put electricity into all housing.
However, even though “you” are forced to have their wire and meter “you” are not forced to use and pay for it.
I wonder if its different in the US?
makati1 on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 5:30 pm
Peaky, I suspect that if Americans connect and there is no use, you would get a visit by the electrical company or the local code inspector to find out why. I am sure there is some monthly connection fee involved. I have not paid a U$ electric bill in 8 1/2 years, so I cannot even check. Maybe someone else here can answer?
Here in the Ps, many outside of the cities are not connected. Most of those will never be connected to a utility. Just the cost of materials would prevent it. The government supplies a small solar panel system to these who live in government supplied houses.
Electric is not cheap here. This month’s bill for 365 KWh = P 3,275.61 or USD 67.51 = USD 0.18/KWh but it varies and can be as high as USD 0.29/KWh). (My last electric bill (2008) in PA was about USD 0.08/KWh.) They do break the cost down into separate amounts for: Generation, Transmission, System loss, Distribution, Subsidies, Gov’t taxes, Universal charges(?), Renewable(?), and Misc. By their record and a use graph on the bill, I averaged 427 KWh/month over the last year.

I live in a 40×12 log cabin and I am not banned. This is a case of certain locations having zoning laws. What is wrong with people as a group choosing to define their living arrangements? Small homes are all the rage in the US now. There is a place for them and some places they do not fit.

Retard rockman, you claim to have a science based degree and the best you can come up with (repeatedly) is the standard think tank “climate always changes” response? Who did you have to blow to get your degree? Fuck are you ever stupid when it comes to anything other than drilling a hole in the ground. I’m talking trailer trash stupid.
True the planet has done all those things, but that’s not what is up for debate asshole. No what we are talking about is the WHY.
What was the trigger on most of those extinction events? CO2. I’ve provided links to evidence many times and directed it your way, but you still need to play your fucking games
The permian extinction. Paved the way for the age of dinosaurs and was “triggered” by the siberian traps (volcanism) which puked out tons of CO2 especially when it made it’s way to mega coal beds – probably burned up any oil reservoirs too. All that leading to climate change and ocean acidafication and the extinction of at least 90% of all life on this planet. Guess what asshole? This time the humans are the volcanism – the trigger. Digging the carbon up and burning it same as volcanic traps do. See how simple it is mr college graduate? An average 8 year old gets it, but not you. The humans digging up the carbon and burning it is the trigger for a chain of events that is going to finish rubbing out most species including the puny humans. You clearly cannot handle the truth rockboy. You remind me of one of my nieces trying to spin a story as to why all the candy in grandma’s candy dish is gone. You’re a fucking pussy rockboy. A big texass phony.

Ap, when your whole life has been dedicated to recovering and burning hydrocarbons, you cannot admit that it will kill your grand children and their future. All that matters is $$$$$$$$. All the oily grafters here will never admit that they had a large part in causing it. Denial is not a strong enough word to describe their mental attitude.
Creedon on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 8:02 pm
I believe that a lot of the pacific ocean warming is due to undersea volcanoes, but science will not agree with me. I believe that a certain amount of global warming is also due to undersea volcanoes.
Anonymous on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 8:13 pm
I also believe a certain amount of climate change is due to people leaving the bathroom door open when they take hot showers. I know science wont agree with me, but I believe it. Oh, and certain amount is also caused by restaurants that have those outdoor heaters, you know the ones? They often turn them on even when its not really all that cold outside. That causes it too.
makati1 on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 8:16 pm
Creedon, while there are a number of undersea volcanoes, some erupting continuously, but they could not possibly raise ocean temps by much. They have always been there. The Atlantic basin has been spitting down the middle for eons. But now man-made gasses are trapping the heat like a huge blanket over the entire planet.
Water is a great heat sink. It will keep absorbing heat until it boils away. But humans cannot live at much above their body temperature for long. 98.6F for most of us. The body cannot shed heat when it even gets close to that temp. Our food supply is even more fragile. Volcanoes. Nice idea … but…?
makati1 on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 8:18 pm
Anon, I chuckled when I read your comment. It is as logical as most ideas put forth here by the less informed. And even partly true. They are all ‘waste heat’. ^_^
Apneaman on Tue, 8th Nov 2016 11:34 pm
Creedon, how do you know there are undersea volcanos? Maybe their existence is all part of an elaborate trillion dollar hoax to steal your freedumb and obtain grant money (that they have always got anyway, but we can’t bring that part up otherwise it kills the hoax theory).

Makati – Thanks for mentioning it, I intended to but cut it short. “The Earth has no sentience.” I’m not going to come down heavy on those who prefer to do the symbolic, spiritual, etc type of interpretation but what? But should we be worrying if maybe Jupiter is also pissed off? Sheesh!
On another point you made concerning “people alive today.” I can go along with that – no problem, anybody who was born last week is simply not going to be living in anything like the same world we see today. For me that’s a given. However, exactly what it might look like when they’re my age (66), supposing they’re still around,I don’t pretend to know.
That was my basic point, perhaps awkwardly put. But Good Gracious, thangs ain’t lookin’ good, are they?

Teleology is a poor substitute for machine dynamics:
“A teleology is any philosophical account that holds that final causes exist in nature, meaning that, analogous to purposes found in human actions, nature inherently tends toward definite ends.
…
Some disciplines, in particular within evolutionary biology, are still prone to use language that appears teleological when they describe natural tendencies towards certain end conditions …”

Plenty of good basic information in this one (a few errors).
Radical overhaul needed to halt Earth’s sixth great extinction event
“Extinctions rarely happen instantly, but the conspiracy of declining numbers, population fragmentation, inbreeding and reduced genetic variation can lead to a fatal “extinction vortex”.
In this sense, our planet is currently accumulating a large extinction debt that must eventually be paid.
And we’re not just talking about losing cute animals; human civilisation relies on biodiversity for its very existence. The plants, animals and microorganisms with which we share the Earth supply us with vital ecosystem services.”

Predictions looking like they are about to come true.
#1, that environmental regs would be rolled back, scrapped entirely or unofficially ignored (already had a rollback in Brazil earlier this year).
#2, Desperation by hardcore environmentalists due to zero attempt to slow it down will lead to a call to arms and sabotage of the systems infrastructure.
With Hope for the Environment Crushed, What Can We Do?
“Industrial infrastructure is surprisingly vulnerable: sprawling and impossible to protect everywhere. Though we’ll never have large numbers of people fighting on the front lines, they can be disproportionately effective by attacking carefully chosen critical bottlenecks.”

Strange Pumping Effect above Asia Threatens the Ozone Layer
An atmospheric mechanism is lofting Indian and Chinese pollution into the stratosphere
“A weird phenomenon is happening high above the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas that could prove to be an atmospheric nightmare. Pollutants that gather from India and China in the lowlands around the mountains can be boosted as high as 18 kilometers, reaching the stratosphere—the atmospheric layer directly above the troposphere that contains most of Earth’s ozone. That is far higher than aerosols from vehicles, power plants and fires usually reach. Once aerosols are that high they can spread globally, destroy the ozone layer that protects us from ultraviolet radiation and exacerbate global warming, researchers warn.”
