Here’s the response some people would have. The person who has the solutions to all of our problems hasn’t been born so we just need to keep adding more and more people until that individual appears! ๐Ÿ™‚ Gotta love cornucopian logic…

Catchy/punchy little doc that struggles to make a point somewhere. However, some problems pop up in their scenario. Here’s one: In 2050, 70% of the world’s population will definitely NOT be living in cities, though quite a few might still be dying there …

Keep in mind that National Geo is owned buy one of the six corporations that control the MSM in the US. They are not the independent reporting/educational source they may have once been. They now seem to be a dumbing down promoter of BAU. Population is not the problem, greed by the Western world and Western wannabes is.

13% use ~60% of the resources of the world.

The US throws away enough food every day to feed about 140 third world countries. Over 100,000 TONS per day is wasted. That would feed at least 250,000,000 people every day!

And, if the Western world cut it’s meat consumption in half, another 3,500,000,000+ could have a decent diet.

No, it is not that the world cannot support 10+ billion. It just cannot support them in anything near a 21st century Western lifestyle.

Watching this video caused 20 less people to be born and bored 30 people to death.

And you thought your genitals were special! Might as well be a world inhabited of penises and vaginas with legs, walking around bumping into each other; the end product would be about the same; as far as depth of thought is concerned, exactly.

    “What Happens Now?”

We either stop growth now, and face a massive cull in our population, or we continue on with BAU as long as possible, and face extinction. That is our dilemma. The time left for us to actually have a choice, is running out.

What happens now? The population goes on growing until we reach the point where there’s so much pollution and resource depletion that we can no longer grow enough food to feed people, so that the death toll starts to exceed the birth rate. Then the population will stop growing and start to decline *or* … crash.

Based upon the video, were too obsessed with glossing over – and avoiding – the problems – and we’ll do so until it becomes painfully obvious to all that we’ve way over grown the resource base.

Then all hell will break loose – and it will become “long pig – it’s what’s for dinner”.

Nothing will happen. As with every other population, it will expand until it reaches it’s limit, then it will decline until it reaches equilibrium. No armageddon, no world’s end, no rapture and no cannibalism necessary.

I mean, do people really think that a relatively minor increase in the death rate is going to bring on the apocalypse? Give me a break!

This whole idea of a humanity-ending event is today’s version of past eschatological nuttiness. This sort of stupidity is the reason I question why on Earth I keep coming back to Peakoil.com.

As with every other population? Beery, you need to brush up on your history. Many other civilizations have collapsed. The Mayan Civilization collapsed. The Easter Island Civilization collapsed. And I could name many others.

And their populations collapsed also, massive die-offs and all the horrors that went with it.
