US Vehicle Miles Travelled

US Vehicle Miles Travelled thumbnail

With global oil supply on a rough plateau, and developing oil countries’ usage increasing, oil usage in developed countries must decline.  This has to be accomplished through some combination of using oil more efficiently and just doing less.  The above are the data for US vehicle miles traveled, and indicate that US VMT has not regained the peak of 2007.  With gasoline still above $4/gallon, I doubt that this series will be increasing sharply in the near future.

The only thing this proves is that americans are generally too broke to keep on trashing the planet with 5 ton 12 mpg mobile trash bins. The uS is still a maze of expensive cumbling highways with jobs homes and services spread, often times, over hundreds of square miles. Mericans still love there gas-burners and there un-livable cities. The only thing thats changed is there ability to pay for it, the american mindset is completely intact behind all this and is just waiting for things to get back to ‘normal’ so they resume there pointless, ceaseless motoring around there doomed cities. Thats all.
