Yes America is an oil addict, among other things. Since at least the 40s, it has also been the terrorist bully of the world. And the American citizen is to blame. We allowed the current situation to be built, piece by piece, by the elite and the power hungry.
Is the US a Democracy? Are the people we elected the ones who took us into slavery/addiction? Do we keep the same war mongers in Congress because they bring jobs to our state? The answer to all three is YES! YES! YES!
There are no innocent Americans under the voting age. None! And, yes, I am one of them. You too if you are a US citizen and over voting age.
The US was formed by armed men demanding their freedom. I have not seen anyone really protesting lately. Americans are the “let someone else do it” nation. Worthless sheeple and deserve the coming results of their inaction. They/We have drank so much propaganda from birth that they/we actually believe they deserve to be ‘exceptional’. Well, I believe America is about to find out what ‘exceptionalism’ costs.

@ Makati:
Firstly, let me make it clear that I’m not an American citizen and I’ve never – not once – voted for a candidate who has taken my nation to war. I don’t vote for any of those bozos because I don’t trust any political representative to reflect my views. The only voting I might do would be in a referendum, but those are few and far between. The fact is, the voting system in the US and the UK is rigged to put people into power who support business as usual, so if people vote, they are supporting that system – a system that is, in my view, undemocratic.
As it stands, I can’t vote here in the US anyway – ironically I’m a victim of “taxation without representation”, since green card holders cannot vote. As things stand, I will not become a citizen, partly because I cannot in good conscience renounce my British citizenship, which is required, and partly because I will not take the pledge to support the US that’s required of prospective citizens.
If American citizens protest, as I did and as my wife (who is a US citizen) did against the war in Iraq, and if they never voted for war, then how are they to blame when the US government forces us into war?
The fact that you haven’t seen protests doesn’t mean they’re not happening.

There is a sizeable minority in the US that prefers isolationalism. The names are familiar: Ron Paul, PCR, Buchanan, Alex Jones, Jesse Ventura, Raimondo, libertarians, constitutionalists. But they are a minority. The bipartisan applause machine called Congress and the media, the complete US Dem left and a large part of the Rep right are willingly steering towards war with Russia and so is Cameron. I don’t think China will idly standing by, while Russia is taken apart, because they know they are next. And I absolutely cannot see Germany and France mobilising against Russia. These could be the final years of Anglosphere being the global top dog, it has been for a century. The dumping of the dollar is next.

Beery, there were protests, but not since Vietnam have they been effective. I protested the war by joining the National Guard instead of going to Vietnam when I was drafted.
That you did not vote for a war monger does not remove the responsibility for the war(s) since. How many Americans really care about what their government is doing as long as prosperity is raising THEIR boats? Few, if any. THAT is why they are all guilty.
Anyway, I would recommend that you keep your UK citizenship. At least they don’t tax your income no matter where you are in the world, until the second of your death. You might want to read this:

“And the American citizen is to blame.”
That’s absurd Mak. Many people including our family protested the efforts to go to war in Iraq II under Bush jr., but that admin. completely ignored people here and abroad.
They insisted on that invasion. I wish we ‘The People’ had more power, but as time goes on we have less and less here in the US. The power has shifted to lobbyists/corporations. If you were to claim it is a corrupt political system I would agree.

Sorry, but they are collectively to blame. The average American has no backbone and is unwilling to put his life on the line for anything except maybe to save his family. Only a small and shrinking number are gullible enough to enlist under the false assumption that they are ‘protecting their county’ when they are no more than low paid grunts doing the bidding of their elite masters.
Yes, I was one of them. Blame accepted. But that those still able, do not rise up and take back their country, is the problem today. 99% of Americans are so brainwashed that they support their ‘hitler’ in the white house.
Oh, they may grumble occasionally but then they go right back to their bread and circus that America has become. 47 million in the bread lines and countless millions of others getting closer and closer to them. Millions homeless. Infrastructure failing, and the highest drug use per capita in the world. THAT is America today.
