Global food prices have leapt in the past few years and there are fears that if the world’s population goes on growing, many more people will go hungry. A terrible prospect, but is it true? And if so, what is to be done about it? Peter Day chairs a roundtable discussion with experts from around the world.

Not too many problem this year , unless the weather turn nasty .

There never will be 9 billion people on the planet – our population growth will end with a crash in human population as the famine/cannibalism phase takes over.
It happened on Easter Island – now it’s going to happen globally.
Perhaps 50 million people might be left to eek out an existence on an ecologically wrecked planet that we will bequeath to them.

You are correct, Silent. Anyone who thinks we will ever see 9 billion are blind or on some really good pot.

So far food was cheap, and production was low priority, investment was small. With high food prices we will see a surge in food production, similar to how high oil prices resulted in fraking. World population will likely grow far beyond 9B. (Shudder!!)
