    That’s 2 years ago.

Can we get something more recent?

  2. dubya on Sat, 19th Sep 2015 7:39 pm

More recent – Why? Nothing has happened since then.

I’m on low bandwidth, so I didn’t watch this; but perhaps someone can tell me if he justifies his $90,000 per day, accomplishing the output of any 400 of his subordinates?

    Speculate on oil at $150.
-Negative economic effect on US and China all economies are connected.
-Can’t happen, unless you take Saudi Arabia, or other countries, out of the market.

    Beyond natural gas, speculate:
“if there was [something] i probably wouldn’t tell you” ( smile )
We follow all the non-oil tech developments.
If developments improve faster than expected, we have the financial capacity to enter that market.
Looking at biofuels. Synthetics-Genomics Inc. Gene manipulation of oil producing algae to get it to expel it’s oil without killing it. Algae reactor in the middle of a refinery. 25+ years out.

Speculate What would you tell the President we need to do:
-Song and dance about wind power getting government incentives distorting the market and not allowing wind to fail, which would be good for wind innovation, he believes.
Nothing on the vast tax loopholes and credits oil and gas get, that distort the market, which would allow oil and gas to fail.
-Government fund more research, but not regulatory requirements.
We have so much intervention [ gov intervention ] distorting the markets. Less mandates.
    -Against wind mandates.

    So, my conclusion:
Tillerson really isn’t keeping with wind tech.

Tillerson totally blind to oil and natural gas tax subsidies like: Intangible Drilling Costs, Intangible Completion Costs, Depreciation and Depletion Allowance.

The oil industry has enjoyed such huge tax advantages for so long they think they’re a natural part of the “free market”, and are riled up by this upstart getting regulatory help to make it into the market.

It doesn’t even enter his thinking that he’s actually in the “pollution” industry, and pays next to nothing for the negative externalities of polluting the US for free. Where wind pollutes nothing and doesn’t have a pollution expense.

Mike said “Where wind pollutes nothing and doesn’t have a pollution expense.” Mike I agree with you whole heartedly with the fossil fuel industry but it is in a class of its own so trying to compare AltE to fossil fuel in the respect of subsidies and tax breaks is stretching it. Both energy sources have different applications also. Wind is for grid power for the most part. Fossil fuels has the oil component that is mostly transport. Gas is industrial, household heating and cooking, and grid power. Gas has some potential for transport but IMHO just a niche market. Coal is a worthy comparison.

Fossil fuels are legacy fuels and foundational. They cannot be substituted and still maintain our global system. AltE can complimented and serve as a bridge as helper energy sources for fossil fuels. In many cases AltE is the optimal energy source per application. Off the grid applications, emergency services, wind and solar sweet spots are great examples of proper applications.

Much more can and should be done with AltE but it comes down to a free and variable market. Unless you mandate AltE it will have to compete and when put to the test in the market place it is not always the best energy choice for a variety of reasons. It is the best choice if we want to lower carbon especially in regards to coal but not all fossil fuel applications. EV part of the altE equation not much because most batteries are charged by fossil fuels. If we were to have a mass change in attitudes and lifestyles there is so much more we could do with AltE but that is not possible because people are habituated to status quo. Our economy is not in a healthy enough position to do massive and significant energy change out.

I fervently disagree with you wind does not pollute. It’s production process and construction process is extremely energy intensive. The wind must have a fossil fuel society for support. Wind must have a fossil fuel supported grid to operate and mainline power to offset variability. In that respect it is not without pollution.

Mike you need to get real and quit spreading false information. AltE is good and that part of your message is good. Your cheerleading green unrealistically is not. We are now at a point in our history where poor decisions can have extremely negative results. Giving people unrealistic expectations is also negative. If you tell them we can be green and have the status quo you are selling snake oil. So many of you greens are engaged in this. This distorted message is little better than the brown nonsense that dominated the mainstream media.

    Hi dubya,

I used to begrudge these highly salariee CEOs and have since step back to try to reexamine what they do with their funds.

People who are smart and have accumulated or are accumulating a lot of capital like Tillerson, Gates, and a lot of others who you never heard of are asking questions and putting their money into trying to answer those questions. For instance, he mentioned getting up with a Genome company to try to look for ways to use algae to excrete diesel. They asked questions of each other to understand the parameters by which something like this could be done. What needs to be done in order for this to come about?? It’s very heady and very exciting.

The fight against ebola is another example. Biomason.com is a another and is being done by someone without the personal resources but had a great question and she has created a career to answer her question. She has wondered if bricks could be created at room temperature the way clams build shells are ambient temperatures. Can you image how much energy that would save if bricks did not have to be fired?

The more I look into what people like Tillerson are doing, the more I am appreciative of their doing so. Look at anything anyone is doing today and you will find someone financing that project. As long as he is asking great questions and seeking answers, I do not begrudge his salary.

Exxon Mobile……… the salesman keeps selling his sale pitch until the end…….

Climate Change is real….. the world has figured it out and the fossil fuel industry is doing all they can to hang on as long as they can…… the sand is shifting under their feet…..
