Oil major BP has outline six main trends which could “shape the future” of energy.
The company said energy transitions this year will look at a “dominant fuel” with gas growing faster than any other fossil fuel.
It will see a sharp change in price coupled with such agreements like the 2015 Paris agreement which aims to keep the global temperature rise by below two degrees.
Meanwhile, the firm said there is much more of a focus around peak oil from a demand side which will gradually start to decline.
Broad consensus has suggested “peak oil” the peak oil window will be between the years of 2025 and 2040.
However the report added there was still “considerable uncertainty” surrounding this.
BP’s head of long-term planning, Dominic Emery, said the company was also preparing for a world where power comes increasingly from renewable sources.
Both wind and solar power have been growing faster than fossil fuels from a low cost base and government subsidies in many regions.
The report adds: “The growth of renewables has exceeded pretty much all forecasts. There has been double-digit growth for wind and solar in the past few years and because the manufacturing
costs have come down as well, cost reductions have been about 80% in solar and about 50% in wind.
“However, what that ignores is the cost of intermittency because, of course, the sun does not shine all the time and the wind does not blow all the time.
“Therefore, in many places the existing grid and the existing fossil system are used to back up supply when energy from renewables is not available.”
BP said the transport sector is also expected to change significantly with electric vehicles, driverless vehicles and new types of business.
The final analysis from the company said the change energy landscape will also be influenced by the differing demand needs.
It said the energy needs of those born post-1980 are likely to change both consumption and work patterns.
In the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries, there is no energy growth expected due to efficiency gains.

You don’t have a fucking clue as to my thoughts on that particular link I just posted because I did not include a comment with it. So you decided my thoughts for me right? Filled in the blank/narrative with your over active senior citizen imagination. That’s another form of lying you know. This is far from the first time – it’s your modus operandi in fact. All your assumptions/certainties of others thoughts and motives and leaps to conclusions, based on little or no evidence or bad evidence. is typical of the paranoid conspiracy brain. Have you always suffered that cognitive impairment or is it a byproduct of your old age? It’s similar to how you always know what Trump and Putin are thinking and all their plans. Next time I post a link without an accompanying comment, don’t assume to know my thoughts on the matter and try and write about them. Anyone who has read my comments on alts knows I have no strong feelings on the matter one way or the other. As with all things, I do not advocate. Anyone with even rudimentary reading compression skills knows that.

Those of you bitching about the swamp and Trump consider this:
“Why Outsiders Need Insiders To Get Anything Done”
http://charleshughsmith.blogspot.com/2017/01/why-outsiders-need-insiders-to-get.html
“Readers ask a reasonable question: if Trump is a political Outsider, then why has he stuffed his staff with Insiders–Goldman Sachs alumni, generals, etc.?”
“Outsiders can be effective in meeting their policy goals (i.e. “success”), but they need Insiders who know how to get things done within a self-serving Establishment that is highly resistant to Outsiders and institutional reforms.”
“I would argue the surest way to fail as a president is to stock your administration with Outsiders — especially True Believer Outsiders who view entrenched, self-serving Insiders with utter disdain.”
“To get anything done in a culture of entrenched interests, one must either have an overwhelming political mandate to dismantle the entire machine–Trump does not–or you need Insiders who know the pressure points of the system and its key players–in effect, Insiders who know how to slip a political stiletto into the kidneys of key players and twist the blade to get done what would otherwise be impossible. Insiders know (or can find out) who the politicized brown-nosers and incompetents are that must be cashiered if anything is going to change for the better. Outsiders are tempted to “clean house,” a strategy that can backfire as entrenched interests hunker down and await the inevitable failure of the reforms. It boils down to this: you need Insiders who are loyal to an Outsider and an Outsider agenda to accomplish any real reforms. Outsiders are easy prey for polished, self-serving Insiders. You need Insiders who can beat the entrenched interests at their own game, and weed out the toxic institutionalized leadership that resists reforms out of self-aggrandizement rather than principle. We’ll just have to wait and see if Trump’s Insiders are loyal to an Outsider and an Outsider agenda or not. Time will tell.”

Siemens thinks thy will have offshore wind down to .10 a kW and by 2025 .82 kW. This includes the line and connection to grids.
Wind turbines May last as long as 40 years. Instead of tearing them down replacement parts is looking to the cheaper alternative. Turbines built in the 90’s are also getting upgrades that will produce more electricity.
The story of wind is ever changing. A report by th DOE thinks with transmission line installations overall renewable could handle up to 35 percent without to much difficulty. The US goal is 10 percent renewables by 2020. 20 percent by 2025 and 35 percent by 2035.
Many doomers think we’ll be dead by then but for the rest of the survivors I am thinking these estiments are to low. If wind will provide 8 cent and below electricity those paying a lot more will be at a serious economic disadvantage. Can’t wait for the EROI on these 40 year turbines.

From your European commission itself:
“A European Energy Union that will ensure secure, affordable and climate-friendly energy for EU citizens and businesses by allowing a free flow of energy across national borders within the EU, and bringing new technologies and renewed infrastructure to cut household bills, create jobs and boost growth.”
Infinite exponential growth, on a finite planet, is a mathematical and physical impossibility. If they can’t even figure out such a simple concept, I wouldn’t put so much faith in them grasping the fact that there is no such thing as renewable energy. The more serious predicaments faced by the EU will not be solved with alternate electric power generation anyways. Best just to ignore them, and focus on another non-renewable source of energy, which also requires non-renewable resources. One of them being fossil fuels.

Ape, didn’t you just have this conversation with your buddy Clogger about him putting words in your mouth or something. I guess for some reason these actions with somebody else is ok if you are the one doing it not the other way around. If you will review the original comment I only asked for consideration. I wasn’t asking for a lecture.
I have maintained all along Trump will likely fail at his elaborate policies of growth and change. He will likely succeed at destructive change at certain levels. US society is now extremely polarized since this election process began. Trump is going to have so many arrows coming at him he won’t know which way to duck. He will have the initial period of success but then the hard part comes and with it a midterm elections. People will have him figured out by then. He will likely be stalled at the castle gates with winter approaching in 2 years.
What I care about is the dismantling of the dominance of the neoliberals and neocons. I am also hopping he guts the intelligence services. He will likely fill them back up with undesirables but the fact that a group that has had absolute power for so long has been battered and bloodied is a victory in my book. There is no salvaging this system except to slow the decay. On some levels Trump will hasten the decay with for example globalism. He may in the process allow the US to go more isolationist. Maybe we can take NUK war off the table at least the edge of the table. We may see Trump deflate the NWO assholes like Soros et all.
My reference to Trump being an outsider and having his team insiders is mainly in regards to his survival. He may escape assassination because of this insider team he has created. He must have swayed these people with his an outsider vision but with insider rewards. He will use insiders in his administration and in the Republican Party to make some serious changes to trade and foreign relations. Unlike most politicians he means what he campaigned for. He is going after his vision. All the whining about climate and environmental issues is another story. I am not sure how far he will take these issues. I think it will be superficial and no real gutting will occur. He has too many projects in the works. He will be limited to what he can achieve. These issues are controversial and the risk reward not good enough.
Cloggie on Thu, 19th Jan 2017 5:04 pm
That’s not an answer to my question, even though I sympathize with your rejection of infinite growth.
The question whether is infinite growth is possible (it is not) and whether you can generate energy from a renewable source without fossil fuel, are two completely different things.
There is a lot I reject about the EU, to put it very mildly, but there is no reason to doubt their pure technological-scientific competence: they get satellites in orbit, can setup an aviation industry that can compete with the US, build broad-band networks, develop high-speed trains, etc., etc.
So if they endeavor to set up a fossil-fuel free energy base, it can be assumed that they did their homework and didn’t violate some mysterious principle that will forbid that it will ever work. In reality the share of renewable energy is rapidly growing and steadily replacing fossil. The amount of CO2 the EU is emitting is declining, probably the only one in the world.
Again my point: energy=energy. You can convert electricity from solar and wind in hydrogen or CH4, with which you drive mining machines or even fly planes, if you would care about these things.
Today another solar project was completed in Holland:
https://deepresource.wordpress.com/2017/01/19/solar-project-completed-in-the-netherlands/
7500 households. In a few months an even larger project will be completed for 22,000 households.
2016: 500 MW new capacity. Rate is rapidly growing.
If you go one like this until 2050, you eventually will reach your goal and have a decent renewable, fossil fuel free energy base and all these horror visions like Olduvai Gorge will not have materialized.

Human beings have labelled man made alternate electric power generators as renewable. They are not. They are products of modern industrialism, and modern industrialism has been made possible entirely because of fossil fuels.
And also Kevin, without the Sun, there would be no wind, and no water cycle. The Sun is our one and only source of energy, and even the Sun itself is not renewable.
Calling these man made energy collectors renewable, is misleading, and is creating a false sense of security. They are not long term solutions, and as a matter of fact, they will do nothing more than add to mankind’s greatest problem. Over population.
