The world needs to transition to a more sustainable economy.

Wind, solar, geothermal and second generation biofuels all need to become a bigger part of the energy mix.

Our economic security and national security depend on our ability to transition to alternative energy.

Can we transition fast enough to reduce the negative economic effects of declining resources?

An ever expanding world population is coming head to head with the worlds limited resources. We added a billion people to the earth in the last 12 years. We will add even more in the years to come. The worlds resources of food, water, oil, tuna, phosphorous, and rare earth metals are all telling us that we need to move to a more sustainable economy.

This is very good, but this was on Max’s site months ago.

People will have to resign themselves to buying MORE expensive vehicles. Let’s think about that statement. The middle class in the U.S. is being destroyed, and they would be the ones that would even have a chance of affording them, forget about the poor. So, who is going to buy these vehicles? The U.S. is also experiencing shortages of Lithium and rare earth metals which play heavily in the production of these vehicles. China is holding the cards on the rare earth metals, and South America has the Lithium. So, what happens now?

    KenZ,

The Biofuels you mentioned depend on growing crops that can be turned into fuels. However, you must replenish the soils with nutrients from fertilizers. Fertilizers are also peaking since they are made from Natural gas. If you keep growing the same crops on the same spot of soil, you’ll soon burn it out and it will become useless for growing anything. Also, it takes machinery and industrial plants to grow and turn the crops into fuel. These machines run on oil, or some converted form of oil.
