If we don’t act quickly to nuke the leaking basin, we will experience the worst ecologic disaster of the century… perhaps ever.
The Russians have done this three times on record.
Google is your friend.
That is all.

We’d all love a quick fix. But:
1. The Russians never did it in 5,000feet
2. The political fallout; Iran could say “we do oil drilling, so we want nuclear weapons too”or else Saudi Arabia or others might say this.
3. The explosion if botched could devastate ecology AND release even more oil
If you refuse to look at 2. and 3., at least re-read item 1.
Want to make a difference? Ban offshore deepwater drilling. If we get 10% more efficient in our oil use we’ll save about as much oil as we get from deepwater. If we in the US used same oil per capita as Europee. e.g. Germany we’d cut oil use by 50%. Not that we can do that overnight. But cutting oil use by 10%? Are we so carelesa about our future that we don’t even made small steps with lower hanging fruit to be at least a step more efficient, so we’re “more wasteful than europe” instead of “much more wasteful”?

I agree and have something to add here: You can cut oil use by more than 10% easily and by almost overnight! how about having it done in just one day from 8AM to 5PM, seriously, no joke!
Here is how: In a typical single story American home, there is a central A/C unit rating from 3 to 5 ton (roughly from 4,000 Watts to 7,000 watts, and costs about $5,000 to $7,000 including installation cost), depending on small or big home. A/C system, perhaps, the most energy-consuming equipment in a home. Now, instead using it (you don’t have to remove it), you can install alot smaller A/C units called “Window A/C system” each cost about $300 for a medium unit that uses only 900watts of power. One unit for each room. So you can keep it off when nobody is inside the room). And at night time, you can keep the units in the living room and kitchen off, too(unless someone is going to sleep in those areas).
By doing this alone, you can actually save a lot of power, and your monthly bill will reduce substantially, 30% easily.:-)
