Last Energy Signs Deals Worth $19 Billion for Nuclear Plants

Last Energy Inc., a startup developing advanced, smaller nuclear power plants, completed four deals worth $18.9 billion to build 34 reactors in Europe. The Washington-based company expects to install the first of its 20-megawatt systems as soon as 2025, Chief Executive Officer Bret Kugelmass said in an interview Monday. Last is building its first system in Texas, but is still seeking approval from regulators in Poland and the UK, where it closed the Europe deals.

Last is part of a wave of companies seeking to install smaller reactors that could be manufactured in factories and assembled on-site. The approach is expected to make them faster and cheaper to build than conventional nuclear plants, but the technology is still untested. Kugelmass said the agreements validate the strategy and show growing demand for nuclear energy. “It’s huge for us, and it’s a milestone for the whole industry,” he said.

Last plans to build and operate the plants, and the $18.9 billion value of the deals represents the revenue it anticipates over the course of power-purchase agreements that stretch as long as 24 years. The company must arrange financing for the estimated $100 million it will need for each system. The customers include a data-center operator and a hydrogen producer in the UK and an industrial zone in Poland. It announced last year agreements to build 12 systems for two additional customers in Poland. While the lack of regulatory approval is a key barrier, Last Energy’s small design means that engineering and safety issues will be simpler than with larger reactors, said Jessica Lovering, executive director of Good Energy Collective, a pro-nuclear research group.

    I did a lot of things in my life. Tried all kinds of stuff.

    I think there is a inner earth. The entrances to earth are located in old abandon minings shafts.

    I went off the trail. There were verticals mines shafts with a small fence around them. Two old building with only some walls left standing. I look around and said to myself, you dare to tell me that workers carried the mineral down the mountain on their backs. I thought it was strange but I did not questioned more.

    More I think of if, more I think these abandons mines are the entrance from the inner earth. It was a fucking mountain of Alberta in the middle of nowhere. I thought no way a prospector came here to prospect for minerals on top on this mountain.

    As for the Ps being the US/China battleground, I disagree. Why? The first day that the US gets involved, all of its (US) ships in the SCS will be sunk. The few hundred US troops scattered across the Philippine islands will be ignored or destroyed. The Chinese have no reason to invade here. That war will be fought with missiles, if it happens at all.

    If S.Korea and Japan stick their nose in, they too will be taken out. Their US military bases are already targets for the first day the US gets involved. Ditto for Australia, if they are stupid enough to get involved.

    I think the US/Chinese war will not be fought on the ground like in Europe. If it happens, it will be a missile war, and the continental US is just as vulnerable as the Philippines. Maybe that fact has not registered with the US warmongers?

    BTW: The Chinese don’t have to invade Taiwan. They can just blockade it and destroy anyone who tries to prevent it, like the stupid Amerikans. It is NOT a self-sufficient country/island.

    I remember to be slightly annoy by this mine in Banff. I could not figure out it was possible to run a mine like that. No water source near by, no administrative building, not tool shed buildings, vertical mine shaft that don’t seem to appropriate for mining operation, nice maintain trail leading up to the mine shaft, just two buildings, and bunch of holes out of nowhere. If you were drilling holes for prospecting you would have build a wood log shed, not a concrete building. It look fake out of place and time.
