An unprecedented wave of disruptions is facing energy and mining commodity markets. We have already seen environmental policy, socioeconomic changes and technological innovation kick off a major transition to low- or zero-carbon technologies.
With the Paris Agreement targets set, governments are reinforcing their focus on meeting their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals. This comes at a time when structural changes have lead to slower demand growth for hydrocarbons and several base metals compared with recent growth in supply. Many questions surround expectations for recovery from the resultant supply glut.
Renewable technology costs are falling, and as battery storage capabilities and economics improve, renewable energy will become more reliable and competitive — potentially further displacing demand for oil, coal and natural gas in the power sector. This raises major questions about the imminence of peak oil demand, the role of gas as a bridging fuel, and prospects for coal demand growth beyond the 2013 peak. But the pace, nature and implications of the transition are not easy to predict.
We have identified four major themes to consider as we look at commodity markets that are experiencing major transformations:
-The strong growth in hydrocarbon and base metal supply is not being matched on the demand side due to major transitions and structural changes
-As major commodity producers and consumers navigate the resultant supply glut, their strategic considerations will have wider implications on industry players
-Transitions to alternative technology in power and transport raise questions about the imminence of peak oil demand as well as demand growth for other fossil fuels
-Adapting to transitions in energy, the investment landscape presents new challenges and opportunities, requiring innovative strategies to access new markets or strengthen positions in traditional markets.
In our latest report, we discuss the key questions shaping commodity markets, to be addressed through our research over the remainder of 2017 and into 2018, and explore these four themes in greater depth.

“Doctors do NOT impress me. They lose a lot of patients from incompetence. The most dangerous place to be, if you are sick, is in a hospital.”
Too bad for you mad kat and your situation with no health care in the P’s. At your age you should be seeing a doctor regularly. You probably have cancer in you already from all the pollution from greater Manila 20MIL megaregion. At your age of 73 you need to start making good friends with doctors. You claim you are going to make it to 100 but I find that hilarious because all you are doing is sitting around the condo in a sedentary life living the deadly serious passion of hate. Not a very healthy way to live your last few years.

“How many times do I have to say that degrees do NOT impress me. I have too many self made, successful friends who never went to college. Some are even millionaires.”
That statement coming from the numb-nut with no formal education. Yea it shows every time you open your mouth, mad kat. There are many skills that can be learned from formal education. It is not for everyone but it is nothing to laugh about. I also respect those who get into a skill and get good with it. Formal education does not make someone better as a person but it should not be ridiculed from the likes of mad kat who is just belittling education because he never had any.

“As per usual the yank mob can’t handle the truth and attack the messengers in the form of Makati and Clog.”
Nationalist, wow, did you just jump into bed with the extremist? Geeze I thought more of you in the past. The problem with you extremist is you can’t handle the truth unless it is anti-American truth. Isn’t it enough that this is an American critical site as-is? Can’t you numb-nuts stay on topic and focused? You know, you have to project your problems onto the Americans to feel something good. Revenge and hate feels good. Dumb n Dutch and mad kat have ruined this board. Their extremism and distortions are an intellectual crime. Neither can stay on topic because they want to turn the board into off topic personal agendas. Yea, I am part of it too but only in the case of fighting them and others who are doing these intellectual crimes. I have offered the agenda peddlers the option of all of us going off line to give others a chance to speak but they want nothing of it. That tells you what they care about. They are narcissist and think they are achieving their personal goals. They have no concern for the truth or the impute of others. From time to time this board shines with real insight but lately since dumb n Dutch and mad kat have pressured it with their agenda puke it has gone truth dormant. What it turns into is an extremist magnet and they love that because they are two stupid old men living a life of loneliness seeking attention and support for their insanities.

I just ignore most of the uneducated, immature and delusional comments here. It’s obvious they have some difficult mental/emotional problems. In most cases, it is to deny that the US is going down hard and fast, and, that there can be better places to live than in the US. So be it. We all have opinions and make our decisions based on them. The demise of the US petrodollar is a matter of economics than of politics.
Russia is now the biggest supplier of oil to China and is a serious strategic threat to Saudi Arabia.
It’s a matter of time before the Saudis starts to sell its oil to China in Yuan as well. They need China’s patronage both as a buyer of oil and a way out of their one horse cart i.e. their total dependency on oil as a revenue source. The Chinese are creating industrial zones in SA and bringing in hundreds of billions of dollars in investments.
The Saudi prince was recently with President Putin to discuss buying Russian weapons including the S-400! The Saudis have to prepare for US belligerence once they decide to trade their oil in Yuan!
Once the Saudi starts selling in Yuan, so would all the gulf states if they want to survive as well. The petrodollar would end but not the US dollar. It would be considerably weaken but would remain a world currency together with a few more.
It’s in the interest of the Chinese that the US economy do not deteriorate too dramatically! Nor is it for the world economy at large! Thus this Chinese offer for the US to join in the BRI projects and Chinese investments in the US. The Americans are resisting this but they know that without Chinese money and massive technological processes, they would not survive well with a great US dollar devaluation. Also, the US has industries that can benefit greatly from the BRI!
Both President Putin and Xi know this and are managing the oil and gas business together very well. The Saudis are looking to them to help them out. The key is protecting the Saudis while killing the petrodollar!
The US dollar cannot be rapidly devalued or the petrodollar killed overnight. It poses a grave danger to the world’s economy and to Russia(who is still selling oil in USD and have US big dollar reserves) and China(holding 1.3 trillion USD reserves)! Wishing for it to happen, is sheer ignorance of economics.
This is the reason why both China and Russia, with wise and knowledgeable leaders, are managing this well. The US dollar has to be devalued over time!
This is one very important reason why the Russian-China’s strategic alliance is critical for long term world peace and economic development. Anyone telling you that the US is in charge is ignorant of current world geostrategic development!
Militarily, the US can do nothing significant except indulge in subversive little wars! Once the petrodollar is gone, they can no longer afford their military spending!

Makati is not telling everyone that he is a battle hardened warrior, single handedly fighting against intellectual crimes on an unmoderated open Internet discussion forum. He doesn’t routinely write 5 and 6 paragraph long diatribes, always saying essentially the same things, written like they came from one of those randomly generated Internet essay sites. “Stockman Warns “Mind The Junk” – This Ain’t Your Grandfather’s Capitalism”
http://tinyurl.com/ydbgkduw
“The financial system is loaded with anomalies, deformations and mispricings – outcomes which would never occur on an honest free market. For example, the junk bond yield at just 2% in Europe is now below that of the “risk-free” US treasury bond owing solely to the depredations of the ECB. Indeed, madman Draghi has purchased $2.6 trillion of securities since launching QE in March 2015, and during the interim has actually bought more government debt than was issued by all the socialist governments of the EU-19 combined! Outrunning Europe’s deficit-addicted welfare states is quite a feat in itself, but that wasn’t the half of it. The ECB’s printing press became so parched for government debt to buy that it has ended up owning more than $120 billion of corporate bonds. In some recent cases, the ECB has actually taking down 20% or more of new corporate issues—an action that surely leaves the fastidious founders of its Bundesbank prodecessor turning in their graves.”
“Needless to say, these utterly false price signals would never occur on the free market. Yet by attracting tens of billions of yield-seeking capital into radically mispriced securities in pursuit of the giant windfalls depicted above, the ECB has not only set-up speculators for massive losses, but also badly distorted the macro-economy in the process. That is, after years of ZIRP Europe’s business sector has become populated with debt-ridden zombies which survive only because their interest carry costs have essentially been eliminated. Consequently, the free market’s essential function of pruning the deadwood and re-allocating inefficiently used resources has been stopped cold on much of the continent. But to add insult to injury, Draghi has given these zombies the financial equivalent of mouth-to-mouth respiration. That is, the ECB has made junk bond yields so cheap that debt-encumbered businesses have been able to further extend and pretend—-that is, refinance higher cost bank lines and earlier bond issues with 2% money; it’s just another example of a central bank driven refi machine at work.”

Why China will prevail when the SHTF:
https://www.globalresearch.ca/china-and-the-us-comparing-leadership-selection/5617866
“China, with all of its drawbacks in terms of democratic procedures and rights, is moving toward a less corrupt, less bellicose and more accountable dynamic society with carefully vetted and developed leadership.
The US is moving toward a more corrupt, crime ridden and despotic (‘police state’) society with unaccountable leaders, warmongers and criminal at the helm.
The gap between promise and performance is widening in the US, while it narrows in China.
China’s rigorous, meritocratic selection process has demonstrated greater capacity to respond to new challenges and majority needs than the dysfunctional and corrupt US electoral charade, which cannot even address the addiction crisis brought on by unregulated over-prescription of opiates, let alone respond to the environmental crises of climate change and mega-storms ravaging US communities.”

” Across the developed world, the younger generation faces a future already mortgaged by a kleptocratic oligarchy. Unlike the prince, they can’t do anything about it, and relatively few are even aware of it…yet. Debt initially dazzles and deceives, then it disappoints, disillusions, devastates, and destroys. The oldsters got the first two, the youngsters will get the last four. The former reassure themselves: we vote, the kids don’t, we’ll protect our benefits. Debt deceives. Mounting public pension problems are a harbinger: you can’t squeeze blood from stone, not matter how many vote for it.
A collapse of the debt skyscraper of cards is inevitable, the issue is who bears the losses. Amidst the devastation and destruction, the young may cast a gimlet eye on the benefits their elders have voted themselves, and decide they’re less than willing to fund them. They may decide a generational uprising is in order—perhaps outside the boundaries of the normal political process—and a reshuffling of the remaining assets. The developed world’s elderly could find themselves in the same position as the oleaginous old thieves who ran Saudi Arabia: bereft of power and wealth. Except their reduction in circumstances may not be quite as tolerable as house arrest in the Riyadh Ritz-Carlton.”

My family is independent and scattered all over the US. You obviously do not have a grown family or you would know how unimportant you become to them after they have a family of their own to take care of, and that is only right. They know I can manage on my own and support all of my decisions, even my move here. I would be welcome to live with them if I ever wanted too, but that will not happen.
I enjoy my freedom. Thirty years of growing up, getting educated and a career, then thirty years of marriage and family, then thirty, or more, I hope, doing what I want in a new and exciting place. I am not afraid of dying. It happens to all of us no matter where we are or who we are with. Your fairy tale vision of “family” is not reality. Too Much Walt Disney in your youth?
