The price of coal and oil will increase due to the ever expanding use by China and India. Their use is increasing faster than supply is increasing. If we ever get out of this global recession the price will rise for all.
Rising prices for coal and oil will make all forms of alternative energy more competitive. Wind, solar, geothermal and second generation biofuels are all making advances in reducing cost and increasing efficiency. As the scale of these projects ramp up the unit cost will go down.
