In this intimate talk filmed at TED’s offices, energy innovator Amory Lovins shows how to get the US off oil and coal by 2050, $5 trillion cheaper, with no Act of Congress, led by business for profit. The key is integrating all four energy-using sectors—and four kinds of innovation.
Amory Lovins was worried (and writing) about energy long before global warming was making the front — or even back — page of newspapers. Since studying at Harvard and Oxford in the 1960s, he’s written dozens of books, and initiated ambitious projects — cofounding the influential, environment-focused Rocky Mountain Institute; prototyping the ultra-efficient Hypercar — to focus the world’s attention on alternative approaches to energy and transportation.
His critical thinking has driven people around the globe — from world leaders to the average Joe — to think differently about energy and its role in some of our biggest problems: climate change, oil dependency, national security, economic health, and depletion of natural resources.
Lovins offers solutions as well. His new book and site, Reinventing Fire, offers actionable solutions for four energy-intensive sectors of the economy: transportation, buildings, industry and electricity. Lovins has always focused on solutions that conserve natural resources while also promoting economic growth; Texas Instruments and Wal-Mart are just two of the mega-corporations he has advised on improving energy efficiency.

Another book selling article…nothing realistic. The conversions he is pushing would cost trillions of dollars we do not and never will have. The Empire is struggling to survive it’s wars and debts. Little, if anything, is going to be put into changing that path anytime soon. And The Us will be off ALL carbon based fuels/energy by 2050 because there will not be any available.

He seems pretty confuzed. That 6 billions a day he refers to would be seen as problem for rational and sane people, but to the corporate rulers of the amerikan empire, its power and control. He might want to see that fixed, and so would I, but the people that built that system, do not. He does not seemt to grasp that at all, in fact, im sure hes even considered the idea. As for 40 years, the real experts, the like Heinberg etc, all say the same thing. It would have taken 30-40 years of solid effort before the onset of the peak to mitigate the worst effects of the decline. IoW, its likely too late now, and has been for decades, a view I tend to share. This guys thinks a 40 year effort is going to happen…in amerika?
Get back to me in 40, let me know it turns out. Amerikans cant decide what to do with 2 years down the road, let alone 10, or 40. TED has some real good folks in it, but some are just prone to wishful thinking. Even he points our amerikan cars got fatter than there drivers. Its clear he never asked or consider why. Heavy and complex, means more fuel, and more expensive to maintain and repair. Also has the added benenfit of breaking down sooner, thus requireing constant replacment. Why , Mr Lovins, would corporate amerika want to change that formula again?

Lovins in this video: “Trucks and planes can realistically use hydrogen or advanced biofuels…”
Planes powered by hydrogen fuel cells? That should tell you all you need to know about Amory Lovins.

There are many pipe dreams floating around. The truth is big oil is going to do whatever it takes to maximize their profits. Nothing will happen that gets in their way.

Another BillT post saying the same old crap over and over again.

I like the way he thinks. I dont agree with all of his ideas but he is looking at the energy situation in a sober and educated fashion.
