Kunstler: What It’s All About Coercion

Public Policy

It’s worth checking out the YouTube video of this year’s semi-annual Munk Debate held in Toronto this spring. The proposition at hand: Be it resolved, what you call political correctness, I call progress…. For the pro position: Michael Eric Dyson, sociology prof from Georgetown U, and New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg; on the con side, Jordan Peterson, psychologist and U of Toronto prof, and Stephen Fry, British actor and screenwriter.

The debate quickly beat a path to identity politics, which make up the actual substance of PC, itself only a method of conveying the substance. PC acts as a filter for sifting out thought that doesn’t conform to orthodox ideology, and for punishing those who dare to express the filtered-out ideas. So, PC only allows for a narrow range of expressed opinion on identity politics. PC is literally thought-policing. It’s hard to imagine anyone being in favor of that, which is exactly why PC behavior is so odious to those of us who value free speech.

The orthodox view in identity politics these days is that “white male cis-heterosexual patriarchal privilege” is responsible for the discontents of women and “people-of-color” — a squishy, mischievous category which obviously doesn’t count Chinese grad students at Harvard or the Asian-Indians in the Silicon Valley C-suites — and demands reparations of one kind or another.

Mr. Peterson laid it out nicely: identity politics assigns everyone to ethnic, racial, and sexual groups, and all the human relations among them amount to never-ending battles for political power. Nothing else matters. Individuals especially don’t matter, only the group. And no group has abused its power more than European white men.

This animating idea comes out of the mid-20th century “post-structural critical theorists” Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, whose Marxian views emerged conveniently at a time when women and non-white people were vying for departmental chairs in the college humanities and social science programs, and thus have two generations been indoctrinated.

Well, if human relations are solely about power, than exercising power over others is all that matters. Hence, the key to identity politics: it’s all about coercion, making others do your will by threat of force and force itself. These days, the main threat is depriving heretics and apostates of their livelihood. That’s what happened to Brett Weinstein at Evergreen U in Washington State last year, and to Jordan Peterson himself at the U of Toronto, when he objected loudly and publicly to a new Canadian federal law that sought to punish citizens who refused to use the new menu of personal pronouns for the rapidly multiplying new gender categories (e.g. ze, zir, they, xem, nem, hir, nir….)

Both Weinstein and Peterson refused to be coerced and found themselves inadvertently leading a movement against the pervasive, creeping coercion of our time — which has now spread from the campuses into corporate life, with the HR departments working overtime to enforce thought among employees, because company profits are at stake (e.g. Starbucks day-off for “diversity and inclusion training”).

Most of the sparks in the debate came off the friction between Dyson and Peterson. Dyson, who was ordained as a Baptist minister at age nineteen, relies on the tropes of the pulpit to entertain his audience (or his classes at Georgetown). That theatricality is well-suited to putting across dubious ideas with false authority. In the end, he resorted to plain old name-calling, branding Peterson as “an angry white man.” Peterson did appear deeply annoyed. I could certainly understand why. He’s been suffering the enmity of morons for a couple of years now. But he has them on the run. He’s onto their game and he’s unmasking their mendacious intentions. And offering a framework for understanding human relations that actually comports with reality. In what has been lately a reality-optional culture, that really hurts.

neder, I am all for harsh immigration policy but let’s not separate families. Anyone who has had kids know the trauma of this. I know you have not had kids so you don’t feel it.

This is not necessarily my view but does show just how far Trump has taken things. I don’t agree with the science denying part of Trumps efforts. He has rejected sound science in favor of appeasing an element of American society that could give a shit about science. He was supposed to reduce military involvements and hasn’t. Yet, the deep state has prevented that. His survival has likely depended on allowing the military to do as it wants and the military wants to stay engaged. Militaries don’t like withdrawals because they point to defeat. What Obama did was not all bad but globalism must be stopped. Obama was pushing more globalism. Globalism has gone too far and the results are turning nasty. Immigration and global economics are not healthy today. Cultures are being destroyed from homogenization of people and ways of life. It is both of these negative culture killing forces that makes this advancement of globalism so bad. That said people of color deserve fairness. We cannot continue to destroy their cultures and ways of life. We cannot continue to exploit their resources and markets to the benefit of the rich west unfairly. Globalism has allowed this too. On the other hand the overpopulated 3rd world must find a way to curb population growth or suffer the consequences. There are no easy answers and likely no leadership acceptable to any of us going forward because all choices are bad now. Catch 22 predicaments operate like this. We are in a minefield of traps not just one but many.

Soros Steams That Trump’s “Revolution In World Affairs” Is Succeeding
    https://tinyurl.com/ycl3rp8j

“While the Hungarian-American might come off as full of doom and gloom in his interview, he actually has a reason to feel that way because Trump has single-handedly presided over the dismantlement of the Liberal-Globalist world order that Soros has worked for decades to build, destroying the old paradigm of Trans-Atlantic relations in a simple spree of tweets and presiding over the return of Christian morals, ethics, and values in American society, ideas that are absolutely anathema to the atheist billionaire. From Soros’ perspective, Trump is indeed destroying the world, albeit not in the apocalyptic sense like he’s implying but in the ideological one of pioneering a completely new world order than the one that the President inherited.”

“The world that Trump wants to build is one of unrestricted American unilateralism in “Leading from the Front” while unabashedly pioneering a return to unipolarity, righting what he truly believes to have been the many historic wrongs that Obama, Soros, and all the others before him committed in voluntarily handicapping American power through lopsided trade deals and various other unfair commitments. All told, this global recalibration can rightly be described as a “Revolution in World Affairs” because of the “new thinking” involved in guiding America’s policies from here on out.”

Basically we are looking at a failed India in just a few years. There is no other view and nothing they can do. There is no substitution for water. There is not enough energy to create that much water resources. Ground water resources cannot be replaced. Climate change is disturbing the normal hydrologic cycle. Something similar is happening in Pakistan another near failed state. Both are NUK armed powers ready to attack each other. This is another collapse dynamic ahead in just a few years. This will have global consequences because India is an important part of globalism and represent an essential power node in Asia.

“India is facing its worst-ever water crisis, with some 600 million people facing acute water shortage, a government think-tank says. The Niti Aayog report, which draws on data from 24 of India’s 29 states, says the crisis is “only going to get worse” in the years ahead.”

“India faces more than one problem – all compounding the nation’s crisis: Droughts are becoming more frequent, creating severe problems for India’s rain-dependent farmers (~53% of agriculture in India is rainfed17). When water is available, it is likely to be contaminated (up to 70% of our water supply), resulting in nearly 200,000 deaths each year. Interstate disagreements are on the rise, with seven major disputes currently raging, pointing to the fact that limited frameworks and institutions are in place for national water governance.”

    https://tinyurl.com/ybya6pm8

“40% of the Indian population will have no access to drinking water by 2030 with 21 cities running out of groundwater by 2020 – affecting 100 million people which will cut 6% from GDP by 2050.”

“How Arctic Sea Ice Loss Could Make the Hot Pacific Blob Permanent”
    https://tinyurl.com/ycwo5som

“An ocean heating event called the Blob resulted in mass loss of sea life during the period of 2013-2014. It was associated with a towering high pressure ridge in which the upper level winds ran far to the north and into the Arctic. Beneath the ridge, temperatures both at the land and ocean surface grew to be much warmer than normal. Though viewed as a fluke by some, many began to draw connections between the powerful ridge feature, the related Pacific warming, and sea ice loss in the Arctic. Now, a new scientific study using climate models has produced some rather telling findings. First, the study found that Arctic sea ice loss results in large scale Pacific Ocean warming within just 10-20 years of widespread Arctic Ocean ice reductions. Second, the study models indicated that warming occurred first and strongest in the North Pacific, but then rapidly translated toward the Equator.”

“The reason for this change in planetary and Pacific Ocean energy balance is scientifically described as a teleconnection. In very basic terms, loss of sea ice at the Arctic Ocean surface produces changes in local wind patterns that ripple through the global atmosphere. After a rather short period of time, wind patterns in the upper levels of the atmosphere and at the surface in the Pacific Ocean become involved.”

“Looking at the study, it appears more likely now that the Northern Pacific Hot Blob of 2013-2014 was not a fluke, but instead an early knock-on effect of Arctic sea ice loss. A kind of event that will tend to become commonplace as the Arctic Ocean ice continues to melt. And that eventually, sooner rather than later, the heat build-up in the North Pacific will translate south to the Equator. First warming the Eastern Pacific in a more persistent El Nino type pattern and then spreading west (see image above).”

For those who speak German or know how to find a good online translator (deepl.com), they can verify that Merkel’s days are numbered:

    https://www.bild.de/politik/inland/politik-inland/merkels-einsamste-reise-56084184.bild.html

Everybody in Germany and in Europe is out to politically kill her, now even within her own CDU. The press is writing her in the gutter. She went too far with her open doors policies and enabled the AfD. It’s a matter of days/weeks rather than months now.

A lot of things are going to change in Europe after her retreat.

The wine will taste excellent in the Kremlin.

    http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/italien-matteo-salvini-macht-europa-eine-kampfansage-a-1214394.html

Salvini has already outright rejected Merkel’s “European” proposals. There is not going to be a European agreement, just a closed door policy.

Italy openly says it is no longer prepared to take in a single additional gate crasher.

The NWO and “Open Society” are over. The political burial of Merkel is next. And the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions there-after.

“Italy’s Salvini: “We Need A Mass Cleansing, Street By Street, Quarter By Quarter” In The EU”
    https://tinyurl.com/ycgjdaa3

“Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini continues to pile the pressure on Brussels and expose his more fascist credentials as he warned today that it will be decided within a year “whether a united Europe still exists or not,” according to Germany’s Der Spiegel. “Whether the whole thing has no sense any more” will be seen in particular in talks on budget and within context of 2019 European Parliament elections.”

“All of which leaves Salvini’s call to NATO and the potential ‘help’ of the US 6th Fleet (as we discuss below) very much in play as Oriental Review’s Andrew Korybko details below, President Trump may rescue Italy from the migrant crisis in order to further divide Europe. Italy’s populist government that just came to power pledged to make the Migrant Crisis one of its main priorities, so it’s no surprise that it’s poised to take immediate action in delivering tangible results to the voters. Matteo Salvini, the head of the EuroRealist Lega party and Italy’s current Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, said that: “I am in favor of NATO, but we are under attack. We will ask NATO to defend us. There are many concerns about terrorist infiltrations. Italy is under attack from the south, not from the east.”

ROFL. “America coming to the rescue again”, well in Davy’s feverish imagination.

Do you have any other source than Zerohedge, suggesting that Salvini might be tempted to call in the 6th fleet to keep a bunch of dirt poor negroes away?

Here is a different report about the 6th fleet:

    https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2018/06/17/world/europe/ap-eu-europe-migrants-the-latest.html

The U.S. 6th Fleet said the migrants rescued by its fast transport ship on June 12 were moved to the Italian ships on Sunday near tiny Lampedusa. Ship master Susan Orsini said they were transferred “in good spirits and good health.”

During the rescue in the Mediterranean Sea, the crew of the Trenton spotted 12 bodies in the water. The 6th Fleet said crew members couldn’t locate the bodies or other survivors after the first 41 people.

LOL. The 6th fleet is only aggravating Italy’s problems, not solving them. America’s problems with migrants btw are FAR, FAR worse than Europe’s. Italy is still virtually white. No need for American help whatsoever, other than finally withdrawing your troops and most of all nukes from Europe.

The cover of der Spiegel this week…

    https://magazin.spiegel.de/SP/2018/26/index.html

They are setting their once-darling Merkel up for the kill. She enabled the AfD and European populism. The owners of the empire and hence der Spiegel can’t appreciate that.

Try Oriental Review’s Andrew Korybko. He writes anti-American stuff so you will probably enjoy his articles.

    Never heard of him.

Apparently Korybko is an American, a blue collar one and probably no big buddies with the ruling US elite.

    I’m not anti-American, I’m anti-ZOG and anti-empire, a subtle difference.

YOU are anti-American to the core, that is anti the real America. Your loyalty resides with the Beltway and supporters of empire, not with ordinary Americans.

Opening German news: breaking up the decades old union CDU-CSU no longer impossible. Real political changes in Germany immanent. Many in the union want a turn to the right.

Merkel, visiting her refugee pets in Jordan has already admitted that no European asylum policy is to be expected. This means that Bavaria will implement strict admission policies at the border (as in: “fuck off”) in a week or so.

  17. Cloggie on Fri, 22nd Jun 2018 2:15 pm

German news during halftime break soccermatch Serbia-Switzerland: they are now suggesting that the downfall of Merkel is the goal of the CSU. If they don’t they will lose the absolute majority in Bavaria.

Horst Seehofer is the current leader of the CSU and minister of the interior in Berlin in the Merkel cabinet. But Seehofer has a “crown-prince”, Markus Soeder, wo is at least as a hardliner on immigration as Seehofer:

    http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/markus-soeder-hundert-tage-ministerpraesident-in-bayern-die-bilanz-a-1214477.html

Last week he wrote an article “We must finally end asylum tourism”:

    https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article177596828/Markus-Soeder-Wir-muessen-endlich-den-Asyl-Tourismus-beenden.html

I would be surprised if Merkel is still chancellor in August.
