Hang on to your gas caps. Prices at the pump could blow them away.
At some stations in the Triad this week, gasoline prices blew past $2.55 a gallon and are expected to rise another 10 to 20 cents in coming weeks.
The increases come on the eve of spring break for area schools. Moms and dads who plan to take their children to the beach for a few days will have to pay about $5 more for a tank of gas than they did a month ago.
Statewide, pump prices have jumped more than 30 cents a gallon in that time.
On Wednesday, some stations in Greensboro boosted prices 7 cents a gallon.
“That is definitely what we call anticipatory pricing,” said Tom Crosby, vice president of communications with AAA Carolinas. “It is highly unlikely that they got a shipment (Wednesday) that they had to pay 7 cents more for. That is typically what some of the companies do now.”
