What are you scared about?

Unread postby dinopello » Tue 13 May 2008, 22:22:27

And what are you doing about it?

Pops said:$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he fact is, if I may be so bold; folks should be scared. You may not see it in your life and more power to you - I won't bother to rehash this entire site but there are things to be scared about.

Those things that are beyond my control that would snatch the lives of my family frighten me the most.

That there really is a disconnect between effort, plans and dreams from the future.

Quicksand & Spiders

You're playing and you think everything is going fine. Then one thing goes wrong. And then another. And another. You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can't move... you can't breathe... because you're in over your head. Like quicksand.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Homesteader', 'T')hat there really is a disconnect between effort, plans and dreams from the future.

Dreams from the future? That is spooky.

I have a related fear. Vaguely stated - that I won't ever see the downward slope reversed.

Oh, I guess the last option should be - I'm only scared of myself.

I knew I didn't state that clearly.

Lets try this:

The future is not going to look anything like what I am working, planning for and dreaming about. I need more time dammit!

No "dreams from the future" at this point.

The ignorance of the human race in failing to realize the fact that fossil fuels play an enormous part in how human populations rise and fall, that they greatly affect the direction a society takes both economically and politically, that they don't last for ever and that we are not educated on their importance.

I'm afraid of food shortages.
I'm afraid of desperate people.
I'm afraid of losing my job.
I'm afraid of losing my health.
I'm afraid of my wife melting down.
I'm afraid of the wars my infant son may have to fight some day.
I'm afraid of a lot more than I was just months ago.

What I dream about is the day when my wife and I have about 20 acres backed up to a mountain. Small trout stream. In an area that has a tradition of small farms and cottage industries and strong community. We just do our thing living locally until we molder away.

The worst of the downslope is far away in some distant land where they thought hedonistic overconsumption was a birthright.

I'm afraid that some idiot somewhere will push the button and then someone else will, then someone else; and when the radioactive dust clears in a few years, this planet will be deader than an old asteroid.
That when TSHTF worldwide, there will be so much chaos, people will react so badly that it will take almost a minute by minute, day by day effort to stay alive and out of harm's way.
That when all is said and done and over, someday someone will show up on this planet, observe the hideous mess we made of everything and conclude that it was for the best that the humans died off because the species was a disaster-that humans will become the boogymen that parents of other species use to scare their children into behaving.

I used to be one of the wussiest, chicken-shit pansy asses you'd ever meet. I was affraid of everything and everyone. I would sit in my room and worry and worry, staying up for days on end. Then one day somethign happened, I just stopped worrying for the most part, I think I finally broke the stress mechanism in my brain from worrying so much. Or maybe I realized that a life full of fear and stress isn't one worth living, so I decided to stop giving a shit.

Now I don't really care about most things, but there are a few things I'm still somewhat affraid of. Social interactions for example... I feel like I never fit in and I've never had any long-term close friends. Maybe it's because I don't trust people, I find most of them manipulative. It seems like the friendlier they are to your face, the more of a hard-on they have to screw you over. I've found that most humans are like used car salesmen... not to be trusted.

I'm also affraid of driving somewhat... I'm always expecting someone else to pull out in front of me. There was a 2 year period were I didn't drive at all. I'm over this fear for the most part.

That's funny. And they will use the crap that the most brainless humans consider entertainment as a way to punish their children. I can just imagine it. "Xenu! Do your homework or I'll make you watch " Mtv's Real World" while listening to a Britney Spears album" That shit will give those poor little alien bastards nightmares for days on end.
