It seems in the past few months, the whole aura of doom is settling upon America. Even institutions are going into a funk, like te Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which posed the question of America going bankrupt. Is that the kind of thing these men are getting paid big salaries and likely big pensions too should be doing? I see all this stuff about the Social Security system going belly up. Thinking about that too long will cause people to start squirreling away every free dollar they have and just by itself, sink the economy. Also, as I have some money in it, I don't think that way.
I once heard Frank Stronach, the famous industrialist, speak and he stated that to be successful, one must first be optimistic. He even mentioned that is downfall of many smart people is that they do not harness their intelligence and channel it in the right directions, but start dwelling on the negative and the trivial. Some real wisdom from a man who has no college diploma but started working with this hands, and his mind, as a machinist.
Let's stop the negativity. I think its high time President Bush did an FDR manouver, and had a good fireside chat with Americans and extolled the power of America and its resilience. Its time, for once, for him to become the "uniter "he promised he would be. To stress the economic power that it still has, and its ever present gift of ingenuity and hard work to make great things happen. Look how America transformed itself in a two year back at the start of World War II. And economic miracle. Imagine shipyards pushing out a naval ship a week and an aircraft plant one bomber pr hour. Amazing stuff.
I even see things written, within America, that degrade Americans, knocking the education system, and the like. These are just further sources of depression and should be avoided.
Maybe I see this about my former country better being outside its borders. I sense its not just the economy but the American spirit itself that is going into a depression of sorts.
Its time to get positive.
