America must achieve energy independence

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')merica must achieve energy independence

Dredging the Delaware River makes about as much sense as surgically enlarging a 400-pound man's esophagus and large intestine so he can eat another 10 pounds of food a day.

Why would the government throw away hundreds of millions of dollars to allow larger ships to bring more oil into an area that needs foreign oil like it needs a hole in the head?

We need American homespun ingenuity to get off our heroin-like addiction to foreign oil. We need to stop hauling our children around in 10-mile-per-gallon SUVs and sending them to war to keep more foreign oil coming.

When will we wake up and make our free market economy work for us, not for multinational oil corporations? When will we implement the technology that has existed for years to bring energy independence? When will we realize a nation that sent a man to the moon almost 40 years ago can do almost anything. Or are we happy to stay fat, happily connected to the sports channels worshiping the major corporations' advertisements?

We used to be a nation of doers, not viewers. We used to play the sports we now only watch on TV.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')e are at a very important time. There needs to be a choice. Is our free market economy going to benefit the American people or a few dozen CEOs and their actuaries?

The American people have voted their pocketbooks in our so-called "free market economy".

They want huge SUVs to make them feel like powerful cowboy figures. They want huge 4000 square foot McMansions to highlight their personal success and status. And they absolutely refuse to change their lifestyles even slightly for theoretical future problems like energy depletion or climate change. And they want their consumer whims and wishes flattered and indulged without having to encounter any nasty global realities. And if the US military ends up nuking the whole ME, well, that's just too bad for those arab terrorists and the societies that spawned them.

Unfortunately, that's just the truth at this time.
