Here's a very scary thought (click only if you dare)

Unread postby Lokutus » Tue 13 Dec 2005, 15:49:13

Every Republican I talk to states emphatically that there's nothing to worry about.

We won't run out of oil for at least 100 years.

Global warming is a hippie treehugger lie.

Now what if this guys turn out to be right about it all?

Won't we have egg on our collective face?

Don't ask, what if they're right, ask yourself, what if they're wrong? The truth is never about what the majority believes or doesn't believe. You will never arrive at the truth if the fear of getting egg on your face so paralyzes you that you cannot take the first step in seeking it.

However, it doesn't matter what we might say or what the Republicans might say, the truth will remain the same regardless what anyone says. You have to be willing to find that truth. That ultimately means you will have to read and understand the issue, and make your own decision. Until you do that, you will never believe in anything, you will never be sure of anything, you will always worry about getting egg on your face.

The fact that you are worried about getting egg on your face means you are a follower. That's okay, most people are. If you only find comfort in being surrounded by like minded people, join the Republicans. If someday it looks like they were wrong, join the other side. That way, you are comforted no matter what happens. You will always be in the majority.

Don't forget the Democrats

Unread postby DoctorDoom » Tue 13 Dec 2005, 16:15:37

Not likely they'll be proven right.

But how about the counterpoint: every Democrat I know thinks we can solve all our problems by conserving and/or moving to solar/wind/biomass power and/or going back to a utopian agrarian lifestyle. They all think nuclear power is evil, dangerous, has unsolvable waste problems, etc. The result: we keep burning coal, with it's own well-known and far worse environmental problems including global warming.

Actually neither caricature is correct. I know many Republicans who are worried about energy supplied and global warming. And I know at least a few Democrats (like my mom!) that are ready for nukes or whatever we need to do to get off fossil fuels.

Truth is both parties have their heads in the sand on the energy issue.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')very Republican I talk to states emphatically that there's nothing to worry about.

Aren't these the same people who believe that some thug named YHWH "created" the universe, the earth, and life, in a week (before "weeks" even existed) and who was stupid enough to plant a tree he didn't want fruit eaten from in the midst of a garden occupied by two ignorant adolescents; people who want this superstitious garbage spoon-fed to every school child in the country, even if they're Buddhists?

The same people who think that some teenage boys "choose" to be sexually attracted to other boys, and that they can be "cured" through frequent beatings, playing catch, and prayer?

The same people who think a zygote embedded in a uterine wall is a "person" and that taking a pill to kill said zygote is a crime equal to shooting your grandma between the eyes with a pistol?

The same people who worship the jesus of the impoverished--the guy who instructed his disciples not to even wear sandals (depending on which gospel you believe) and who claimed one must sell all one has to "follow" him--but who drive to glistening mega-churches in SUVs and inundate their children in expensive, plastic Wal-Mart junk on December 25th to celebrate the (fictional) birthday of their destitute savior ("Blessed are the poor...Blessed are the hungry...Blessed are the thirsty") who was born in a barn?

The same people who claim that everything they disagree with on the TV is because of the LIBERAL MEDIA and yet can't manage to tear their fat asses away from said TV long enough to cook their own meals?

Smile, nod your head, and walk away.
Peak oil = comet Kohoutek.

Or I could be trolling a bit.
