Best show on TV now. Two minor snags though: no way Jericho'
s grid would be reparable so quickly let alone at all after the EMP blast. And no way one of the designers of the bombings and Jenning & Rall takeover would flip and come to Hawkins aid. Excellent show and good public relations by CBS. Acquiescence of reality is intelligent fascism.

The deaf girl had guts.

BTW xerces, NYC was the only major American city not nuked. You sure you want to stay there still? Only kidding... sorta. :P

I'm staying here till those Commie nukes come raining down!

But on a more serious note, I'm hoping the government east of the river shifts their capitol to NYC. Cleveland is such a boring city after all.

The new season is good, government conspiracies, fascism, deaf girls with shotguns, etc. I just wish they would have let society keep collapsing, with the last words of the second season spoken through a megaphone: "Just walk away."

I found Jericho while looking for a 10:00PM news broadcast for the "Super Tuesday" primaries, and my first thought was "oh my God, they're getting away with putting this on a major network?!" The last time I got hooked on a series was Babylon 5, which was some of the most brilliant science fiction to date. IMHO this is right up there in the same league.

The references to the Bush Regime are transparently blatant. When the Sheriff went through the database and says "hey, there's voter registration info in here, is that legal?" and someone tells him, "Yep, since September 2006," I nearly fell out of my chair. Jennings & Rall is pretty obviously Halliburton. The bald guy on the screen who issues orders to the Army Major is pretty transparently Dick Cheney.

OK, so for those nights when I miss it on broadcast (I have rabbit ears TV, no cable or satellite or video recorder), is there a re-run the same week, or where can I get it on the internet? And where can I find the first episode of the season, which I missed?

And what was up with the first season? Is that where the nukes came down, or something else?

----

If you have a TV with manual adjustments, try turning the color saturation all the way down and watching it in black & white for a sense of that old-time cold war feeling: like you're watching something about the evil communist empire except it's about the US rather than East Germany.

----

This show definitely gives me a sense of "the future you're talking about: this is what it looks like up close & personal." Scary as hell. Life under a warlord regime, the mild version. In the real thing, the warlord's people would just shoot anyone who opposes them. But as of the last episode we seem to have crossed that threshold.

----

Grand Irony department: Chevy ran a President's Day Sale ad during a couple of episodes, featuring a few notes from Hail to the Chief and a bunch of stars & stripes imagery. That was almost as if they were making a meta-comment on the show and on our times, as in "this is the kind of advertising you're going to see when that kind of regime takes over, oh wait it already has," but of course it was a purely accidental juxtaposition and probably didn't sell too many Chevies, by way of getting people vaguely creeped-out.

----

Yeah it's going to be interesting seeing how this one turns out, and if it has any effect on the election. How much longer does it run?

Yeah, you can watch the streamed version here:

I watched the entire first season off bit torrent. This entire series is just such a subversive classic.

In season 1, New York was the only major city where the attack didn't succeed. Sara's terrorist cell was supposed to strike NYC but their bomb was mysteriously shipped to a small house in Jericho!

That is what gets me, surely the new capitol should be an imperial metropolis such as NYC rather than tiny Columbus Ohio.

First season had more grit. Starvation, shortages, bloody feuds with neighbors. Why, occasionally some of the actors looked slightly dirty!

Skeet Ulrich excepted, of course. From the start he was grimy and unshaven. Good man. The rest of the cast's refusal to do without shampoo+conditioner makes the whole affair a bit surreal.

The show was set to be canceled too but overwhelming viewer response has kept it on - last episode had the main character address the enemy thus: "Nuts." Ala Battle of Bastogne. So fans sent in huge bags of nuts to the network! Real sturm und drang. People love Doom it seems.

Actually no, their bomb was aimed at Columbus, Ohio where the eastern states government relocated, the NYC bomb was stopped in transit because Hawkins tipped off the authorities in NYC and because of 911 they took the tip seriously and caught the bombers. Which is why this whole Hawkins has the only bomb scenario doesn't hold water, the Columbus government has one of them captured in NYC.

The Jennings and Rall document projected 25 cities hit, 23 were hit because 2 bombs were stopped. The vast majority by about 2:1 of targets were east of the Mississippi, west of the Mississippi is 2/3rds of the country and only got 1/3 of the total damage leaving it vastly stronger. Good news for the East Coast, many of the strikes on the east were Atlantic coastal cities and the fallout fell out to sea.

I just can't believe that a major network would air a series in which a government conspiracy (headed by a man who could pass for Dick Cheney's brother) nukes 23 American cities.

I do like the Cheyenne President who is eloquent, controlling, but without substance (can you say Barack Obama?).

I find season 1 and 2 to be equally interesting. Season 1 was survival, picking up the pieces, and trying to ascertain what was going on beyond a 50 mile radius. In 2, we have America rebuilding under 2 flags. Then of course Hawkins is trying to uncover the conspiracy while keeping the goose-chase for Sarah Mason going.
Only a city man would carry a bag of iron instead of a bag of rice.

Xerces, thanks; I found the webpage and the videos from season 1.

Watched the first two of those last night.

Couldn't help but think, this is the PG-rated version of our future, plus or minus a few details. It might not be atomic bombs, it might be germs instead, and it'll certainly be PO and the climate shit hitting the fan, but either way, the human story will still be much the same. Plus or minus a lot more dyin' going on.

This shit really hits home: it's about the countless personal tragedies and crises that are going to increase exponentially for the rest of this century: kids whose parents died far away, people seeking shelter where they can find it, vital supplies running out one at a time, fragmentary information coming in by small pieces, all the desperate shit that's going to go down in our lifetime. F---ing sad mess we've gotten ourselves into.

---

Who does Sara Mason work for? As of the last episode, the black guy (Hawkins?, my memory for names stinks) got the satellite intel showing someone meeting with the Darth Cheney character, so unless that was a psyop plant on Hawkins' part, it would seem she works for Cheney. But who is Cheney? Is he with J&R (Halliburton) or something else...?

---

Tanda, if the NYC authorities caught a bomb in transit, then they have a guilty party in custody. That plus Hawkins' bomb adds up to the basis for convicting whoever started it.

So here's a wild guess at the plot: At some point the captured NYC bomb plus Hawkins' bomb add up to the basis to overthrow the Western regime and J&R. The East Coast government succeeds in the war against the new Western government, Cheney & J&R are captured and put on trial, and the season wraps up with the badguys defeated and the goodguys still having to rebuild.

And that rolls into season 3, which starts out with the rebuilding.

---

Baldwin, and who are you supporting in this election?

Weathervane McCain, who was against torture before he was for it, and would stay in Iraq for another century?

The Hill & Bill Show?, "four more years" of the politics of self-indulgence?

Or perhaps you're an apologist for the only president in US history to LOSE TWO WARS AND A MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA...?

Or perhaps Hucksterbee, a veritable American Taliban who knows more about miracles than he does about math and wants to make sure your kids do too...?

I had my reservations about Obama too, but he's more then overcome them. IMHO the smartest candidate we've had since Gore 2000, and that kind of brainpower makes a critical difference in an uncertain world. In terms of morals, his refusal to stop to Billary's level in the primaries is worth a lot. And in international relations, there's no question he'll have the respect & cooperation of our allies, and the capability to deal with our adversaries. Don't underestimate the man.

The short version bio's;

Darth Cheney (lol) was an undersecretery of Homeland Security. His department was running a joint operation to infiltrate the DOMESTIC terror cells who had been provided access to the stoles Soviet black market bombs. The terrorists were various bunches who wanted to overthrow the government for their own reasons and who wouldn't work together, somehow each group was convinced they would come out on top after BOOM day. When the bombs went off six different groups claimed to be the legitimate successor government, now only Columbus (USA) and Cheyene (ASA) remain with Texas independent of both.

Hawkins, head of the CIA anti-terror infiltration cell. He tried to get Darth Cheney to pull the plug a month before the bombs went off, not knowing that Cheney was behind the whole thing. He estimated at that time that they would capture at least half of the terrorists because he knew at least that many cells had been infiltrated.

Sara Mason, Homeland security liaison assigned by Darth Cheney to Hawkins team. Each homeland security Liaison was tasked with eliminating the members of their team who were not in the know after the bombs went off. Only 3 members of Hawkins team are known to still be alive as of now, Hawkins, Chavez who is on his way to Texas with intel, and Chung who is insinuating himself into the Cheyene government.
