1. The Wire (HBO)
2. Deadwood (HBO)
3. Rescue Me
4. The Office (UK version)

Honorable mentions:

Weeds
Carnivale
The Sopranos
What will arrive first? Peak Oil or the Second Coming? My money is now on the latter.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lokutus', '1'). The Wire (HBO)
2. Deadwood (HBO)
3. Rescue Me
4. The Office (UK version)

Honorable mentions:

Weeds
Carnivale
The Sopranos

Never seen any of these except #4. It sucked. Really really bad. All I heard when I watched it was a deafening sucking sound, worse than NAFTA. Absolutely awful. And I usually like British comedy. But I'll look into the others. I'd like to check out Deadwood especially, as I heard some positive things about it on the western history listserv I'm on. Never even heard of #1 or #3, or your honorable mentions (except the Sopranos, of course, though I've never seen it). I'll Google them.

I haven't given my fav TV shows much thought, certainly not enough to put them in order. But here are some I like (yes, I'm a scifi geek):
--Firefly
--Battlestar Gallactica (the new one, of course)
--Star Trek franchise (esp. Next Generation)
--Farscape
--South Park
--Simpsons (not so much the new ones, which kinda suck)
--Family Guy
--Twin Peaks
--X-Files
--Kung Fu
--CSI (just the Las Vegas one)
--Monty Python's Flying Circus
--Third Rock From the Sun
--Black Adder
--North of 60 (watched it when I lived in Canada, but can't get it anymore---if anyone has it on VHS, I'll send you cash)
--Northern Exposure
--Twilight Zone (the old one)
--Outer Limits (the new one---don't have much recollection of the old one)

I'm probably missing some shows, esp. the older ones that aren't on broadcast TV anymore (I don't get cable), but these are the ones that come to mind. TV is mostly a vast wasteland of utter crap, but there has been some good stuff in the last 50 years.

I received Firefly on DVD as a gift from a friend who thinks I should watch more TV. It really was good.

The Wire.

There is no question in my mind that this is the greatest (and most underrated) television series ever made. Season four was so good, no words of mine can do it justice. Anyone attentive enough to follow complex, sometimes subtle storylines ought to do themselves a favour and watch (and rewatch) this show from start to finish. Once it hits it's stride about halfway through season one, there's no turning back - to me, all other TV drama pales in comparison.

Gotta love HBO for greenlighting a final season - can't wait. Have to admit I was a bit bummed about a certain favorite character of mine taking one to the head, but sheeeeeeit, whaddaya gonna do? Simon is a genious.

-The Daily Show. How could I have forgotten that? It's what I miss most about TV, so now I get it on the internet. At first I didn't think Jon Stewart could ever replace Craig Kilborn, but he grew on me after a few years.
-Futurama. If you don't agree, you can kiss my shiny metal ass.
