Arrested Development - Peak of TV

Unread postby Rishabh87 » Mon 17 Apr 2006, 02:27:19

TV Shows have peaked - no doubt about it. With Arrested Development cancelled, TV is going to hell. For those of you who have not watched the most brilliant and funniest show on TV ever, go rent the first 2 seasons on DVD. FOX also replaced it with Skating with Celebrities (that's a worse decline than Cantarell!).

You doomers can get rid of all the tension of building your ecobunker by watching this show. (Don't tar and feather me because I think the super ecobunker isn't necessary for survival in the future).

I saw the first season and yes it's quite funny, but forgive me if I don't regard this as the peak of TV, many of the jokes are quite predictable and seem somehow "forced"...

But hell yeah, the characters are great and very (sym)pathetic, I like Tobias Fuenke the best, I am a never-nude too! :)

I can understand how a lot seems forced, but I think the beauty of the show lies in the hidden and background jokes. Take a lot at the episode capsules here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ar ... t_episodes
They list all the hidden jokes and references.

I bet the PO.com crowd would like it better than the gasbuddy.com crowd as well since the discussion here is a bit more intelligent.

By the way, I think the second season is a bit better than the first.

It was too high brow for the average person. Anyway I heard that HBO might pick it up.

I just hope they don't bring back Musical Variety Hours. No amount of retro factor will ever make those dark years in the 70's hip again.

Maybe the non-stop incestuous tension was what drove middle American viewers away. Though I suppose that will fit right in at HBO.

If you haven't killed your television yet then you're still part of the problem. :x

I cut back my cable package from expanded to just basic and got rid of my xbox last month. I can't believe how many hours a night I pissed away on those two. Now I spend more time reading books and finishing home repairs started earlier.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Eli', 'W')hat about killing your computer?

My computer makes me tons of money which I then pile into building up our farm. When the day comes that I no longer work in the industry I will cut back my computer usage to just the essentials of news gathering and bill paying. Oh and occasionally posting to PO.COM :)

I think the fact that it was an over the top parody on American culture drove people away. Or at least of parody of the dysfunctional life most Americans strive for.
