Essential Peak Oil Reading?

Unread postby doppler89 » Mon 17 Apr 2006, 00:07:57

Hello, I'm a junior in high school now. I am planning to prepare my senior thesis on the consequences of the lack of education about hydrocarbon depletion. As a student of a competitive, well known math-science magnet, I can attest that even the curriculums of our nation's top high schools do not include any mention of Peak Oil. Most kids graduating during the peak of production are blissfully unaware that oil is a finite resource, and decling extraction means more than higher gas prices. The generation that the world is depending on to solve the energy problem has no clue what's going on.
Anyhow, the point of this post is to find suggestions regarding what sources I should consult first about the energy disaster. It seems that there is a lot of information out there written by amateurs. What credible academic papers and books do you guys recommend ? Thanks for the help.

The top of my list would be Overshoot by Wiiliam Catton (amazon link).

If every high school student in the country read and understood the concepts in this book we may have some hope of building a bridge to a sane and sustainable future. At the same time lessening the inevitable misery we have set ourselves up for.
