Tomorrow Never Knows

I can't understand how anyone who likes modern music could not like The Beatles. Spec, did you ever listen to those songs that I told you about? Tomorrow Never Knows is a good one among many. Dave Matthews covered it, but the original is best.

I'm well aware that it was 40 years ago when they were doing their thing. But I listen to music that is a lot older than that. We all have a recorded music heritage that is about as old as the oil age. The music will go down with the oil I think. Plus, I have always felt the music of our era is conditioned by the internal combustion engine. The tempo is definately mechanical. People who lived before engines and oil wouldn't get it. Mozart would be puzzled I'm sure.

Try listening to the intro to Dear Prudence. What I'm trying to say is don't get hung up on what is current, because before long it won't be current.

Siouxsie Sioux and The Banshees did a cover of Dear Prudence back in the 80's. Very Concrete Blond-ish goth.

If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that music is a perfect metaphor for the overall situation: where does talent go? if there is no receptive social structure to receive talent then talent goes wasted. finished, time for wearing animal skins and lighting fires with flints. I saw Clint Eastwoods' tribute to blues piano players. They were all very old. Skills get lost, spirit gets lost.

Alright, I've got to get this off my chest: imagine a situation where the generations propagated and produced ever more degraded trash as music until the improbable day came when rape and murder were glorified and all the children were seduced by evil music. Hello Plato.
