Book: "Over a Barrel" by Raymond J Learsy

Unread postby hanrahan » Sat 12 Nov 2005, 17:28:40

He has just written a book, Over A Barrel which debunks much of the Peak Oil theory.

There is an interview with him on the second hour of The Financialsense Newshour on link and he sounded reasonable. Is he known to the forum?

Nope, never 'eard of 'im.

I did check the Amazon reviews of his book -including one by Richard Heinburg - who I have slightly heard of :)

Notice how many stars the reviews are given - put out a book and get the denialists/cornucopians juices rolling...

Richard ripped him a new one quite nicely.

He never really backed up his claims with any proof. All he talked about were conspiracy type theories about the price and quantity of oil. He thinks oil is plentiful and just waiting to be drilled. He also seems to think that we could simply stop buying oil from the middle east with no ill effects on our economy.

More wishful thinking than actual data, not really worth the hour to listen to it. Most other FSO newshours are pretty good though.

Oddly, although the bloke is a complete nutter, he comes up with some proposals that make more sense than other people who try to address what they see as a shortage. Namely, reducing oil consumption through conservation, and developing alternatives to become energy independent.
It's all downhill from here
