CSPAN: Edward Murphy, American Petroleum Inst.

Edward Murphy from American Petroleum Institute (Refining Director) is on CSPAN Washington Journal right now (920 EST) and just got asked about Peak Oil via an emailed question. He dismissed it as a theory that has been around for about 100 years and that people ‘forget’ that the market will respond and technology allows more production. The problem with CSPAN is that the ‘interviewers’ hardly ever ask follow up. Same old story. :x

Yep, on Easter Island some of the nerdy people had been talking about peak tree for generations. An absurd concept, as the economists knew that all that was needed was greater investment in searching for trees on the island and increased construction of stone axes to fell the trees after they were located.

In the end the Easter Island economists were the guests of honor at a luau. Unfortunately, they had to be slow cooked with bundles of grass as there were no logs left for the traditional ovens.
