Anyone here had lyme disease?

Unread postby vision-master » Sat 18 Jul 2009, 14:25:48

Doc called yesterday. I was tested positive.

Though I was getting RA as it runs in the family.

I've have had this for at least a year. I remember the tiny litle thing.

Never got the red bulls eye?

No but my brother has. He had the bulleyes and then went in and was tested positive. That was at least 6 years ago or more. I think he went on something and he had to stay out of the sun...whatever it was you had to hide in the shade and wear long sleeves, sunscreen. I remember he had a fishing tournament around this time and got a little too much sun and had to leave early. I think he contracted it earlier that spring during turkey hunting.

It can be nasty. I think some people react differently then other.
lawns should be outlawed.

I got it back in 2002. Fortunately I found it when it was still just the rash, so three days of antibiotics and I was good. A lot of people don't notice the rash. Once you get to the secondary stage it can be a real bear to get rid of.

That would be doxycycline. AFAIK the incubation period isn't very long. When I got it, it was about a week or ten days before I started feeling ill, and it was about another week before I found the rash. (It was on my back.) The rash doesn't last terribly long. Maybe a couple of weeks and then it goes silent until you start getting all the weird heart, brain, and joint problems.

Primary lyme is the initial bit when you get a rash (apparently 20% never get the rash). With the rash you can get a flu like syndrome. I basically just felt sick. Achey, tired, feverish, etc. That goes away and then you move into secondary and tertiary lyme. To quote wikipedia "After several months, untreated or inadequately treated patients may go on to develop severe and chronic symptoms that affect many parts of the body, including the brain, nerves, eyes, joints and heart. Myriad disabling symptoms can occur, including permanent paraplegia in the most extreme cases."

I never had it, but I had a friend who became quite ill from it. It's nothing to trifle with.

Did you test yourself again, to make sure, it is clear?
3 days of antibiotics could not be enough.
In my country they are recommending 3 weeks course of relatively large doses of either amoxyclin or doxycyclin when we are dealing with first stage (characteristic rush-ring)

And in secondary stage it is often not curable at all and even if so, then few years on antibiotics in total dose of ~10kg of amoxycyclin together with other antibiotics might be required.

In any case about 70% or even more cases of Lyme disease are symptomless (means that the only symptom is in form of positive test).
So many peoples have it for life and don't even know.
However if there *are* any other symptoms, it is likely that your life will be wrecked.
There can be awful neurological complications, debilitating joint complications, skin disease etc.

Lyme disease is spread form being bitten by dear ticks. I found the tick on me and had it treated within hours of being bitten. I only had a small rash and never got sick but a few of my neighbors got very ill that year from lyme diseased tick bites.

I am getting bitten by common Lyme carriers (Ixodus sp.) about 10-20 times a year.
That is because I walk local forests a lot.
As long as they are removed within 24-48 hrs (easy DIY job), you are usually safe, even if biting bug was infected (about 0.1-2% are depending of particular region).
It is a good idea to ask someone to search your body, though, once you returned from the forest or other infested area.

I'm sure mine is in the secondary stage as I thought I had RA. One day about a week ago I could hardly lift my coffee cup in the morning, That's when I called for a blood test. I've been suffering with joint and muscle pain for quite some time. I've had the fatigue and depression for years. :)

One of the less desirable complications is facial paralysis.

A neighbor didn't realize she had lyme disease until she experienced facial paralysis ... at which point she promptly freaked out.

I'm freaking out to looking at that picture. Is that her? Or something you pulled off the web?

No, that's a generic picture of facial paralysis from an anonymous lyme patient.

Anyway, I think that lady in the picture is HOT ! What a babe !

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'O')h. And there are 2-3 associated bacteria that are transmitted along with the Lymne bug that have their own incidious little stories.

Find a Lymne specialist. Do not trust the insurance companies. There is an epidemic going on in this country and the insurance companies do not want to recognize it.

I starting to see the bigger picture. Insurance company will issue 30 days of doxycycline. End of story. Finding a Lymne specialist will most likey be impossible for me as I stuck with a HMO (in the network only).

I got the vaccine before the horror stories went public; no adverse effects yet.

The vet said my dog has had an immune response to it but that they would not do any thing to treat until he developed symptoms.

I wonder if this is not like the swine flu where a lot more people have been exposed than have had symptoms. Unless there is some random sampling has been done who knows how many of us who live in infested areas have been exposed?

The dog still has not had any symptoms.
