I would also concur with what Big Tex said about small bones. I fell on the ice (snow was on top of the ice) taking the garbage out, fell going down the steps and s-n-a-p...felt..and HEARD.(which was worse).the ankle go. I screamed, and hubby came out to pick me up. The little bones were broken, not the big ones.
That was the same snowstorm several years ago where Dr. Atkins fell down in NYC (on ice) , hit his head and died as the result.
That happened in April, in '03. I had to take the season off from the garden center. I was in crutches, then a cane for a bit. The swelling never went down, and I was concerned. It turned out, that my foot was also dislocated! I found out in August, when the muscles had grown over the repair. It took a chiropractor to reset the muscles by manipulation (or whatever they do) and the foot muscles went down within a HALF HOUR. It was amazing. Hurt like heck for that same "snap", then it burned for a minute, then it was like aaahhhhh..relief!!
See a doctor, for sure, but you may want to follow up with a Naprapath or a chiropractor to see if the muscles around the bones are where they should be. It was a big deal for me.
Back then, I wondered if I ever would have been able to walk without a cane.
Hope your injuries heal up, just take it easy, Frank. Sorry to hear you were hurt.
