I am happy that this board exists, and that there are people tuned in to something big going down. You are all my brothers and sisters in the Spiritus Mundi. Even though we can not see each other, we hear each other. Peak Oil you have no sting.

High 5 Parsifal! I feel the same way...it's comforting to be able to discuss ideas with like minded people. Even when i disagree with others (or they with me), it sure beats getting funny looks & being thought of as a nut case.

As one who has previously disagreed with Ron before I have to agree with him here! :)

I've been thinking about Communities of Choice lately. peakoil.com and other similar sites are prime examples. We associate with a community of like minded individuals or friends whom we identify with more than our family or neighbors. Two most popular TV shows of the 90's? Friends and Sienfeld.

But what about Communities of Non-Choice? I have a neighbor who thinks high gas prices are due to gouging and that global warming is a liberal conspiracy. Not the kind of guy I'd *choose* to hang with and discuss the political ramifications of PO! Still, he's a great guy, with nice kids and strong character and a solid work ethic. I'd trust him with my power tools.

As PO begins to smallify our world, neighbors and neighborhoods are going to be much more important whether we like everything about them or not. Our current ability to select -via the Internet, easy transport, or whatever- whom we wish to be a part of our world may go away soon.

I'm not dissing what parsifal said. I agree 100%. PO can leave you trembling when you consider it. Let's also take the time to turn off the computer and walk next door or down the street though. We don't have to make PO converts out of them, just learn their names!
